I can't find HTC sync version for the My Touch 4G on the HTC website. Has anyone founf it yet?
I called customer support and was told that they were updating the site today. They could not tell me whether the sync would be available shortly or not, nor could they put me in touch with anyone who knew. This is a deal breaker for me because I was told the phone would support Outlook sync. If they don't make the software available within the T-mobile 14 day return policy I will have to take it back. Too bad, I like the phone... Please advise whether you hear anything different; I would appreciate any update that anyone runs into. Thanks.
I'm finding the same thing... not good.... there is no sync option, yet., for Outlook...
does anyone know what this new ota update was for? now my version says 2.2.1
I e-mailed HTC Support today to ask when Sync will be available for the MT4G. Will advise when they respond.
This is the reply i received:
Thank you for contacting HTC America Technical Support with your concern regarding the absence of an HTC sync program for your myTouch 4G. I understand how important it is to fully understand all of the many features and functions of your device and I apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced due to this issue.
There will not be an HTC sync program release for this device as it is was not built with that capability. However, you can sync via Google, making sure all of your contacts are Google contacts. In addition, you can directly sync your Outlook calendar to Google without an import/export process. Once on Google, the calendar will sync directly to your Android based phones over the air. This is an alternative to other methods to transfer appointments. The application can be installed on your pc to send the data from Outlook to Google, and syncs both ways.
I replied asking why it says you can use HTC Sync on page 58 of the user guide. Will post the response once recieved.
Dang!
But as far as I can tell, there is no true sync available from Google to Outlook, just import/export instructions. Am I missing something?
Is this the future (cloud based computing), or just one way of syncing? I really don't want to put my 700 business contacts on someone else's cloud.
There seem to be several third party syncing softwares out there, but that seems to be an unpredictable workaround...
Suggestions?
OK now this is a better response:
Thank you for your reply. I do apologize for receiving incorrect information about HTC Sync and the myTouch 4G. You will be able to sync your contacts and calendars in Outlook using HTC Sync. However, we do not have the software available for your device. When it becomes available you will be able to locate the software from www.htc.com/.../downloads. Generally we have the software available for new device within the week of release. In the mean time, you will be able to use the sync software for the myTouch 3G Slide. This software is located at www.htc.com/.../downloads.
Hopefully it will be there soon.
awesome! hope it is true.
let me know if you try the 3g download!
Yes, that's a much better response and makes sense. Sync is obviously a software feature and the previous response stating that the phone was not built with that feature in mind did not make sense when it's obviously simply a program issue. Thank you for your post, this confirms what I have been told. I think I'm going to wait for the release instead of attempting to install the slide software and then having to figure out how to delete and replace it. I did create a gmail account and export my contacts there and then import them into the phone. There was no way that I was going to enter 270 contacts with addresses and emails manually, then after the import I cleared the gmail so the contacts are not hanging out there so to speak. I have not been able to do the same with the calendar but I need to try again to see if it's possible. If someone attempts the slide software on this device would you share the experience. Thanks. Aldo
Okay I'm having a problem with my MyTouch4G contacts...
In my "View Contacts" It displays 471 Contacts for my Google contacts as for the number of contacts.. so I expand it and I uncheck everything except for "My Contacts" ... I go on my Gmail via firefox and I go to "Contacts" and under "My Contacts" it says I have 321. So I figure ok.. maybe it is counting the "All Contacts" for Gmail but now when I go on Gmail I don't even see an "All Contacts" anymore.. Not only that but I'm missing on my phone some contacts that I can see in my "My Contacts" on Gmail... Someone help please!!
I tried the 3G software but it wouldn't recognize my phone. The instructions do not match the 4G for phone recognition. Perhaps it's just as well... Still waiting for the new software. I may try the google sync mentioned above (great idea about wiping the google end of it onces the data is on your phone).
The sync software is still not available and so I emailed customer support and was told the following, which is posted after my comment. In short, it looks like they may be misrpresenting Outlook sync. Furthermore, last week I downloaded the entire Users Guide, which on pages 57-62 covers Outlook sync and states that HTC provides the software. I accessed the User Guide today and those pages have been deleted from the User Guide. I'm trying to get a straight answe from HTC but have not received one yet. Can you forward the ticket number they gave you for your inquiry so I can make them aware of this misinformation? Also, you can email me directly at cordozo1@verizon.net if you prefer. Thanks. Aldo
HTC reply to my inquiry about Outlook sync dated 11/10/2010:
Unfortunately Aldo, the My Touch 4G does not use HTC Sync, it uses Google sync.
Your phone is setup by default to automatically sync with your Google account, if you have set one up already. To setup a Google account, please press Menu on the Home screen, then tap Settings > Accounts & sync > choose Add Account > Select Google then tap Next and follow the onscreen instructions to enter the account information.
If you don't want to synchronize automatically, press Menu on the Home screen, then tap Settings > Accounts & sync and then uncheck Background data and Auto-sync.
Using a Google account on your phone will provide synchronization between the device and Google services such as Gmail, contacts, and calendar events
We do apologize Aldo, for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Not liking that answer AT ALL!! Just got the phone today and may have to send it back if that is the case. I thought I was making an "upgrade" from my Blackberry, but without having the freedom to use my phone as I'd like it seems more of a "downgrade." Google is seriously getting "too big for their britches!"
