They updated my AT&T Inspire to a factory ROM for a Desire HD (European version of the Inspire), provided the correct radio for AT&T and gave me a ROM that has Android 2.2.3 and the Sense UI 3.0 on it. They also provided several other ROMs in case I wanted to try them.
Fortunately I leave near them so I could drive. It only took 20 minutes. You would need to send it.
All the bloat ware is gone, I can delete or add any program I want. I have access to every setting on the phone. It runs much faster than it did and the new Sense UI is awesome.
I then installed ROM Manager (Pro) and it is now easy to keep updated with the next version of the ROM.
I am now using Virtuous 1.25 and will be moving to 1.27 with the push of a button.
They explain it all and can provide some tech support if you screw up after you get the phone pack.
Absolutely painless and risk less.
The next official AT&T upgrade for the Inspire 4G will be 2.3.3 unless they decide to bypass 2.3 and go directly to 2.4.
If you want an official version, you will have to wait until AT&T pushes it to your phone or has HTC make it available on this Forum as a download.
Any idea if it will have Sense UI 3.0. I would expect that it would
no it won't. sense 3.0 is for dual core processers. all of the newer phones, BUT it should have some aspects from sense 3.0, which will be pretty cool.
I am a little confused. I am using the Virtuous ROM with Sense 3.0 and it screams on an Inspire.
@ tiaaa
You are confusing HTC Sense 3.0 with Android 3.0.
Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) is designed primarily for tablet devices. Some of those have dual core processors, some don't. Honycomb is more efficient with dual core processors, but it will run on fast single core processors too.
HTC Sense 3.0 is the User interface that is currently offered on many of the HTC Phones that are using Android 2.2 and 2.3. Sense 3.0 is on your Inspire if you have a stock ROM from HTC/AT&T.
@bduerr
If you are running the Virtuous ROM with Sense 3.0 - that is a cooked ROM, not a standard AT&T ROM. Many of the cooked ROMS are developed by taking the HTC kernel (that has Sense 3.0 included) and stripping out the bloatware, and in some cases providing different software radios that work faster and more efficiently.
The downside to these cooked ROMs is the voiding of your carrier warrantee. If your hardware fails during the one year AT&T warrantee period, you are on your own, unless you can manage to flash a stock ROM back onto your device before you send it back for warrantee service.
The Inspire came with OS 2.2 and Sense UI 2.0 ("The HTC Inspire is the first U.S. device to come with the latest version of Sense UI, simply called Sense 2.0.")
My Original question was: if it gets OS 2.3.3 will it get Sense UI 3.0?
You can unlock the phone and use ROM Manager to copy the stock ROM.
