Recently my phone will abruptly shut down as I take a picture. It happens maybe 5% of the time at varying levels of battery power and varying conditions (needing flash or not). It's very disruptive as I have to await entire boot sequence each time.
Any ideas?
I'm having the same problem.
I took the phone to the AT&T repair store and they replaced the phone (but used my same battery). Then when I tested the replacement, the same thing happened.. So they blamed the battery and sent me a replacement. The new phone with the new battery has had no such problem.
Unfortunately, I think it was probably the battery all along and would have preferred to have only replaced that so I didn't have to reinstall all the apps, etc..
Their thinking was that perhaps a short in the phone led to battery problem which led to shutdowns. It's possible they were right about the root cause.. I guess I'll never know for sure. But at least the problem is behind me for the time being now.
Same problem...it only starting happening a few weeks ago..this is my second htc Inspire, the first one was defective. I got the first one in Feb of this year and the second in June...I really hope I don't need a third phone in 1 year!
I am also having this same problem, but it has progressed. My Inspire keeps shutting off at all times now.
I had posted a fix for this earlier months, the battery is the problem, it is sending too much power to the battery and the battery has a short in the cell which causes it to go off, the longer you wait to get a new battery the more it will start turning off automatically. Glad you were able to figure out the problem before it caused any more problems.
I had the same problem...a new battery fixed the problem for me and hasn't happened since. Weird, but worked. Now if I could only get htc to fix all the issues since the software update...
Well I tried another battery and still have the problem. :(
Hi @michaelsmom09,
I’m sorry that replacing the battery didn’t solve your issue, however I have some more troubleshooting that might just get your Inspire’s camera working properly again!
If you haven’t already, try a soft reset of the device by shutting down the phone, removing the battery for about a minute and then replacing the battery and starting the phone back up. This resets your phone’s running memory and may prevent your camera app from crashing. If it doesn’t, the next step is to go into Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> All. From there, find and tap on Camera, then Clear Cache and Clear Data. Your photos aren’t stored in the app, so all this does is clear the memory; which may fix your issue.
If these options don’t work, try deleting any old photos that you don’t need anymore or which are backed up to your computer.
Feel free to respond with any questions that you may have!
how old is your phone?
OK Corey - I was having the same problem as the OP and I just did everything you said and my phone shut down pretty soon after I started the camera App. I haven't got access to a new battery yet but it looks like I will have to try that. My last HTC did the same thing. This one has been good for a year, now suddenly problems. It did get really hot in the car the other day...... could be related.
