I was told by an HTC colleague, Stephanie, yesterday night, via e-mail that my phone, the HTC Inspire 4G (AT&T) would indeed be getting upgraded to the Android 4.0 IceCream Sandwich OS in "Early 2012" Can anyone else from HTC confirm this for me please!?
I heard this as well. Ive been using a 2.3.7 rooted os. Thought id come here and get a peek at the ICS os readiness . Wow, the forums are full of complaints from 2.3 GB! I was blown away with all the issues, complaints.. So glad I updraded on my own. Think I will take a few steps back from anything coming from here and stick with the rooted roms. ICS should be out at xdm in days if not hours. gonna look now,, dont hold your breath here
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news....this device has been pulled from stores and is only available via web....it has reached end of life with at&t....will probably have no more updates from att
WC
Is this for real, I've only had the buggar since August and I love it. Now what
Can this be completly confirmed that the inspire won't get the ics update I've looked all over but everywhere else is pretty out dated with thier info

I really hope so.... I want ics bad....
Come on people...they refused to even fix the screwed up 2.3.3 update, the product has been removed from most stores and is only available in most markets....end of life means no more updates from AT&T....only updates you will more than likely is if phone is rooted and a custom designed rom is installed...I have done this for my own phone with one of my own 3.0 sense roms that is due to be released in europe for the desire hd, modded it to work completely and flawlessly on this device....best part is runs beautifully and no at&t bloatware or totally screwed and outdated software...they dont care...its not htc...its at&t that will no longer support the device@software updates...
I can't wait for ice cream sandwich. The switch from 2.3.3 to 4.0 should be a good dosage of happyness to my day. I'm not saying that my inspire is running slow or that the OS is bad as it is, but a change would be awesome.
Care to share how you did this step by step?
Thank you for your time, Tara
I have been having problems with my HTC Inspire and have only had for one year & 2 months. My phone has been going through abnormal reboots. I have it set to noitify HTC every single time it does this. It does this many times during the day and it is eating up my battery power. From what I am reading here, does this mean I have to put up with this problem until I am eligible for another upgrade with AT&T? (Which is also funny because I upgraded in March but yet not eligiblef or antother upgrade until October 2013.) Seriously thinking about forking out the big bucks for an unlocked iPhone. I have taken these steps (per AT&T employee): Power Off; Remove battery (done); Power back on; and Factory Reset, which I was told should take care of the problem; it did not take care of the problem. HTC what I am supposed to do? Is this an HTC problem or does the real problem lie with AT&T? How do I seek out a solution to the problem my phone is having? This problem is no fault of mine. It sounds like a problem caused by an upgrade; not because of something I have done. I should at least be able to get the phone replaced by someone shouldn't I?
I am having the same problem Terry, and its driving me nuts. Had my original Inspire for 13.5 months. Then out of the blue - the random restarts. Tried the battery removal, the hard reset, etc - no help. Went to AT&T store, and only other option was to claim on insurance. Too early for upgrade.. $125 and two days later I get replacement phone and within 24 hours, the replacement started doing the same damn thing. Did not even have a chance to re-load ally my apps/contacts. Just not sure what to do at this point.. Is the best plan to go thru the rooting option? Apologies to all if ion advance if I placed in wrong category... Thanks for any help/opinions!
Mine was doing the same thing, along with a bunch of other problems that I had been trying to get Android support (Android support case #'s 852881570 & 879157229 still unresolved & ignored since 16Aug11) & HTC (Ref # 2382345 (11Dec11) e-mail support, Case# 12USC130005613 (31Mar12) Justin, Case# 12USC160005350 (19Apr12) Cortney, e-mail support Ref # 2727100 (19Apr12)) to no avail. After giving up on any assistance from them, I rooted my phone & solved all of the problems I was having. It appears to be a software compatibility issue between Android, AT&T, & HTC not working together. BTW, my phones battery life has almost doubled, got rid of AT&T's "Bloatware" running in the background, & it functions so much faster on all levels, to include my GPS, web access, phone dialing, & connections. Once you remove AT&T's "fingers" from it it becomes a great phone (plus you get wireless tethering to boot). If you decide to do this, be advised you'll be "on your own" for any insurance or support (if you ever had any) from Android, AT&T, & HTC.
what is this >>AT&T's "Bloatware" and how do i get rid of it :)
IF HTC and AT&T is going to end a good phone and stop updates. Maybe we all need to get togather and file a group lawsuite. Maybe that will get that attention. I have two phone HTC inspire 4g and they work great. But I know one day the will need updates.
