stock android has a slider on the lock-screen to (near) instantly put the phone into silent (or.. vibe only) mode
but this phone doesn't have such a feature
i'm looking for a quick (the quickest) way to put this phone into silent mode
even if there was a shortcut in the "quick settings" tab in the drop-down notification area (which, btw... was an AWESOME idea - good job!!)
Unfortunately I don't think there's a way to do this in Sense. You can try another launcher, but you'll lose all the good things that come with Sense.
Another solution is to put the sound profile widget on your home screen. That way as soon as you unlock the phone, you press one button and it's silent.

Not sure if it's the easiest, but while unlocked you can use the volume buttons on the side to turn down the ring volume. If you go past silent it goes to vibrate.

If you look into the settings it actually lets you turn this option on or off.
Another option: Install the Mute Ringer app (free) from the Android Market. Add it to your home screen and make it one of the shortcuts on your lock screen. That way, even if the phone is locked, you can quickly swipe the Mute Ringer icon into the ring, and punch the button for however many minutes you want the phone to be silent. One of the nice things about this application is that you don't have to remember to turn the sound back on.

its good to let them know what we think about it
There's an HTC Sound Profile widget which can quickly toggle between normal sound, vibrate, or silent.
Also, if you just hold down the down volume button, the phone will go into vibrate then silent mode.
youre right.. it does have that - i saw that and that's cool
but the solution i found that works best for me is this - there's an app called "Mute" in the market - i assign that to one of the lock screen icons
then its two inputs - 1) turn on the screen 2) swipe the mute icon into the ring
done!

"Personalization" button (to the right of "phone" at the bottom of the screen on the homescreen)
then lockscreens
select teh lockscreen you want
then click "settings" (bottom on the right)
go nuts!
