I'm guessing daffy72 and FISCH are both using the HTC Hero seeing as this thread was created specifically for this problem on that phone and FISCH started this thread but for those of us that posted here regarding the EVO, I just want to say that the Android 2.2 (froyo) update fixed all the exchange syncing problems I was having.
Just found a possible solution. Merely deleting the Exchange account *does not delete the data!* Go into Settings --> Manage Applications --> All applications --> Calendar --> Delete Data, *then* try to resync. (if you already suffered from the duplicate Outlook calendar entries, you'll have to fix that in Outlook before you resync).

This solution worked great for me. I fought with this issue all day until I found this post and in about 30 seconds the problem was fixed. Thanks Dincster!!
I, like many of the posts, have had the same problem with Exchange Sync not working for no apparent reason. The workaround above is a good one, but I thought I would post some observations I have made when the sync stops working, but I don't know what they mean.
When the Exchange Sync gives me an error that it can't sync, the Exchange Setup screen freezes as well where I can't change anything but the password. I also noticed that an individual contact has been deleted from Outlook on my desktop but not on my phone. This is usually a contact that has been there awhile and has not been edited. I have seen other posts about missing contacts. Another observation is that when I delete the Exchange account, the contacts will clear out but not the calendar. I have to delete these entries as described in the previous threads.
I am not sure what it all means, other than it is really frustrating.
To all HTC EVO 4G users who have experienced this issue (Calendar out of sync):
I had this same issue, and read all the information found in this thread. I was afraid to delete my ActiveSync account, as I've seen (on other devices) where I ended up with duplicate entries back on Outlook (like duplicating my entire contact database of 2,000+ entries!) Same with calendar entries, tasks and notes.
After reading everything here and doing some testing, here is what I found as the quick and simple fix. It worked like a champ and I did not have to delete my Exchange account on my HTC EVO 4G. Here are the steps I followed:
1) Backup your Outlook data to external files. You can do this with the "Import and Export Wizard" in Outlook. You'll want to "Export to a file." I run this puppy monthly just for good measure so I have an external backup to Exchange outside of our Exchange server. It has saved my bacon multiple times. When I do the backup, I export the following:
Call me paranoid, but I actually make 3 backups of each! I back up to the following formats: 1) .pst 2) Excel (.xls) and 3) Access (.mdb). As I mentioned, I've gone back to these backups multiple times to pull out something which got "lost" in Outlook...
2) I then followed what Dincster did: Go into Settings --> Manage Applications --> All applications --> Calendar --> Delete Data. That wiped out all my calendar entries on my EVO. Next, I went into Settings --> Accounts & sync --> Exchange ActiveSync. At the bottom, I could see that my "Sync calendar" showed the Client/Server Conversion Error. I hit "Sync now" and watched and marveled while all my calendar entries magically re-appeared! It worked like a champ and I did not need to delete my Exchange account!
Special thanks to Dincster for the tip!
FYI, If you want to sync your Tasks, I've found that "Ultimate To-Do List" works great with Toodledo.com, which I had used previously with my iPhone. I am using verison 1.1.4 of this Android program I purchased from Android Marketplace. It is great to be in sync!
you know i joined this forum simply to say thank you. i've been 'dinking' around with this friggin calendar sync problem forever. this cleared it up. thank you, thank you, thank you.
btw, was referring to dincster's post (Posted by Dincster on 09-10-2010 3:15 AM) who apparently also has insomnia
I appreciate everyone's input here, but I guess after trying these methods I am still in need of help. The process that Booher outlined worked great for the last month or so, but now it isn't working? Still getting a client server conversion error message?
And for some reason, before I got this message this afternoon, I tried to create an event in my calendar and the exchange server option was not available, only the gmail and PC synch option was?
Anyone in the same boat or have advice. Getting very frustrated as I depend on this for work extensively.
Persistent Exchange server calendar sync error after deleting rep. appointment - workaround:
I'm synchronizing my Android (HTC Desire and Desire HD) via company Exchange server,
not USB, and I keep getting a persistent calendar sync error when I - on
the Android - modifies or deletes one occurrence of a REPEATING appointment originally created in MS Office Outlook.
My workaround is to delete the repeating appointment in Outlook, sync on Android and then recreate the appointment in Outlook.
If I don't remember which appointment I deleted; I have to remove and reinstall the Exchange Sync account.
I'm puzzled why noone ever diagnosed this on Android (HTC only?, Desire only?) and fixed it...
