My contacts will sync from my Windows Contacts to my phone, but when I choose the Conflict option and set to keep mobile phone and update to PC, none of my contacts are transferred to my Windows Vista PC. Most of my contacts are on my phone and I want to synchronize my phone completely to PC.
My wife's BlackBerry does this, which gave me the idea to try.
Any suggestions? Any Apps out there that do this?
I'm not sure if this helps, but if I understand your intention, I offer this: A sprint tech showed me that if your not using outlook or another PC based program, like the one that comes with blackberry or my old palm, which I was not, you can still sync with Gmail (web based) as intendedby the droid system. I am told there are programs that bring all those calendars and contacts together on your phone, but I think they cost a few bucks. Try the google market or the web site.
So far, I like this, you may too. I'm not a big gmail person, but its growing on me. If only I could edit google docs on my phone I would be sold. There is something wrong about not editing google docs on a google OS that strikes me as crazy. I'm not a tech type, just a user...
When you said the comment about Google Contacts, I got to thinking....
When I knew I was purchasing the Hero, I found out that a GMail account was required for Android Market, so I created the GMail account.
Signed on with Sprint, and had my contacts transferred from old phone, which in turn, synced to my Gmail when I entered my Gmail account.
So then, when I tried to sync to Windows Contacts, it would not sync because the contacts were considered Google Contacts and not Phone contacts...no sync to Windows Contact would take place that way....
So, what I did on Gmail was: exported them to CSV file, and used that file to import to windows contacts. Deleted all Gmail contacts. Synced phone with gmail contacts, which erased all Google designated contacts on the phone. Then on the phone, Settings>Data Synchronization> Google, and unchecked sync contacts. Then in the sync manager I changed the conflict settings to "last modified" and then initiated a PC sync. The windows contacts are now considered new, and no matches on the phone, so contacts imported to the phone. Voila, PC and Phone contacts are in sync since the contacts are listed on the phone as Phone and not as Google. Only problem now is that the contacts will not sync to google. I think the design is when a contact is created, by default it is considered a Google Contact and therefore instantly syncs new entries to Gmail. Now they are designated phone, they do not sync to Google. I am not using Gmail at all so this does not affect my personal preference.
Recap: If you cannot sync contacts from phone to PC, they may be designated "Google", and not "Phone".
Fix: Log in to Gmail. Go to contacts. Click export. Choose all and CSV and save to desktop.
Delete all Gmail contacts.
Disable Google sync of contacts on android device.
Open Windows Contacts and click import. Choose CSV and browse to locate the CSV exported from Google.
HTC Sync: choose last modified or Keep PC overwrite Phone. Voila.
Enjoy
great post. I think this is the solution for those that want to use other than Gmail to sync. As you said, the stores set up and sync to Gmail at point of purchase.
They really need to get HTCSync to work properly with Windows Live Mail and with Outlook 2010. Also, they need true 2-way sync with Hotmail and Hotmail contacts. I hate GMail. Never use it. I'm searching for a Windows Live client for Android, but haven't found one yet...
