No HTML email on Exchange 2003 issues

  • I am currently a 2 device user. I have an HTC Sensation and I'm considering an HTC Rezound to replace my Droid X2 on Verizon. The issue I'm running into is that when I synced my Exchange 2003 email account to the Rezound I could only view the email in Plain Text vs. HTML. I currently have the HTC Sensation connected to the same accound and I have no issues with getting my email in HTML format.

This is what I have tried so far. Increased the size of the default message download, Attempted to change the message format in the "Send/Receive" settings, but this option is greyed out and locked.

Has anyone else experienced the same issue, or does anyone have additional ideas that I haven't thought of?

  • HTC has only skinned the native email client on the Rezound, but it should have followed suit with what was done on the EVO 4G and EVO 3D and included those device's capability to render emails with HTML "text/context" header.  As it is now, the Rezound's mail app does not solve for Exchange 2003's known limitation of not outputting HTML-rendered messages from their point of origination, only their headers.  That is why you only will have plain text come through if the Exchange ActiveSync client administrator (HTC, in this case) has lazily ignored the obvious nature of email sent via Exchange 2003.  I discovered the same problem when trying to synchronize my Hotmail through the Exchange ActiveSync method, as Hotmail is only backed by Exchange 2003 SP2 protocol.  Nevertheless, this has more to do with HTC's screwing around with things again when they were fine the way they were instead of improving them unobtrusively.  Nevermind the lipstick skinning the mail app.  The mail app needs to read and render the HTML header.  At this time, it does not.  This has become a persistent behavior by HTC, to rehash previous launch OS states with half-baked applications only to gradually build functionality back into them.  Sorry, but that propaganda doesn't work, especially when competing OS's like iOS and Windows Phone seem to render HTML-formatted email just fine. Even on the EVO 4G, this was a problem, but it WAS corrected months after it was released.  Why HTC can't have this corrected out of the box is beyond understanding.  HTC will need to update the mail app to read for and RENDER emails received that were sent with HTML context headers by whatever platform the sender uses, and it needs to do a better job of installing the proven maximums of functionality its accomplished before on all new devices.  The Rezound is lacking many manifestations of maximum functionality that HTC has achieved in the past year.  There is also no HTC Hub downloadable content or HTCSense.com integration on the Rezound, either.  That was something I really enjoyed on the EVO 3D.  Why settle for doing less, HTC?

  • Well I hope this gets addressed as it drives me nuts that a damn modern cell phone can't display a photo embedded in an email.  It is making my life hell and I wish someone would make HTC's life hell until this stupid, stupid problem gets fixed.

    It is disgraceful.
