  • I heard about the latest improvements in multitasking with the latest update. Anybody know of any way to force it, as its not showing up as available just yet.

  • Settings>at&t software update  its toward the bottom  mine didn't show an update either  I had to manually update mine, as I followed the above steps to receive mine

  • I tried doing that at&t software update too but it's not showing up on mine.

  • Thanks but that's exactly what I was doing and it wasn't showing up.

  • Hi everybody!

While you can absolutely check for updates by going to Settings> AT&T Software Update, there is another way to get a released update if it’s not appearing on your phone.

To do this, open your dialer and dial #*#*CHECKIN*#*# and you will receive a message saying that the check-in has succeeded.  If your phone is eligible for an update that it has not yet received, you should get a notification about it.  This method is not 100% effective, but it’s definitely your best option.

I hope you all found this information helpful.  Please reply with any questions, remarks, or alternatives that you may find!

  • What if you go to Settings> AT&T Software Update, tap that and NOTHING happens?  It doesn't even check...

    TIA

  • Hi JNHora,

Are you seeing a message that says “no updates available?”  If so, then your system just completed the check quickly and only seems to have done nothing.  This does happen relatively often when checking for updates.

If, however, you’re not even seeing that message then I suggest double checking to see if you have your Mobile Data and/or WiFi enabled.  If they are, then try a soft reset by pressing and holding the power button until the phone shuts down on its own, leaving it powered down for about a minute, and then starting it back up again.

If checking for updates still does nothing at all, then I recommend getting a hold of my teammates in Customer Support.  You can find their contact information at http://www.htc.com/support.

  • @Corey B

Would you happen to know where I could get a hold of the .exe update file for the past 1.85.502.3 update (1st week of June) for a manual update via Sync Manager? All that shows on the support page now is the most recent update (2.20.502.7 from 8/2/2012), but I need the previous file to stair-step my way up to this most recent update. If you or anyone else know of an archive of the .exe (NOT the .zip of the OTA) file, or a cache of the HTC One X (AT&T) Support Software Update page that has the link to the old update file it would be much appreciated.

Thanks for any info you or anyone else may have

  • Hey @s.m.knipe,

If you’ve already checked out http://www.htc.com/support, then there is no official download for the 1.85.502.3 manual update from HTC.

If you are able to performed updates over the air, then I recommend going into Settings> About Phone> Software Updates while connected over Wi-Fi or your carrier’s Mobile Network.  This would be the best way to assure that you’re able to “stair-step” your updates.

  • @Corey B,

Thanks for responding, I've been trying to do the over the air update since early June and it never finds the update, i have even tried three factory resets with no results. if you can get your webmaster to pull the cache for that support website from before august 2nd, it will have the update link i need. the current content of that page replaced the content/file i need access to, so a cache would have the old content. i was pointed to it from several other sources, i just cant find the cached page or an archive of the .exe file. or if you have contact info for whatever branch of tech support that handles updates i could pursue that route. OTA is not working...

    thanks again

  • @s.m.knipe,

When you update your phone using the RUU method offered via http://www.htc.com, the phone automatically gets any necessary components to function properly.  This is different from how an OTA update works.

I recommend downloading  the most current update from www.htc.com/.../software-updates and seeing if that works for you.

If not, you can always contact my teammates in Customer Support.  You’ll find their information at http://www.htc.com/support.

  • My HOX will not do the OTA update for some reason and it's really started to begin to be annoying. My phone will download the update, proceed to restart to the install screen, get stuck a quarter of the way, then a phone with a triangle appears. The update stops and the phone eventually restarts. Then after it comes back on, a pop up appears saying, "the update was unsuccessful, please try again later"

    Why is this happening?

  • When I try to check for new software, I get the message: "System Unavailable."

My internet is well connected, as other programs can access it... so I don't know what the problem is.

Also, when I use the dialer to type #*#*2432546*#*#, it tells me "Connection problem or invalid MMI code."

Do you know how I can solve my problem, and what is the cause of these error messages?

  • Thanks @Corey B, the RUU did finally work (that .exe bootloader program seems rather fickle about USB, power consistency, and phone's battery level- phone was at 90% but the RUU program kept rejecting it saying it was below 30%).  To everyone else- this (once you get it to work) is a very viable option. It did wipe the phone, so back everything up, but this did work!

Thanks again for researching that for me Corey.
