  • popping and clicking sounds while on wifi , static on mobile phone calls  anyone else having these problems?

  • They have an update that was supposed to take care of a variety of things, WiFi calling being one of them. I did the update and still has popping and crackling......get fustrated being my home needs to be on WiFi calling for any reception.

  • The update did nothing for the popping and crackling. Evenwith WiFi left on with  WiFi calling turned off my calls still cut in and out.

  • Hi @shocwave!

It’s definitely unusual for you to be hearing popping and clicking when you make phone calls with WiFi enabled, but I have some troubleshooting tips that may help.

First, try a soft reset.  To perform a soft reset press and hold the power button for about 15 to 30 seconds until the phone powers off and leave it off for about a minute. If you still hear the popping, then try the steps below.

Next, start the phone in safe mode.  To start in safe mode, press the power button and then press and hold the volume down button until the phone is fully booted.  It should vibrate halfway through the procedure if it’s working.  The phone should say safe mode in the bottom left corner of the screen.  Safe mode prevents applications from auto-launching and helps determine if it’s the phone itself or an app causing the issue.

Once in safe mode, enable your WiFi and see if the popping and clicking continues, and try making a phone call as well.  If they are working, then one or more apps are causing this.  Reboot the phone normally, and then delete apps one at a time until the issue stops.

If you do hear those sounds when the phone is in Safe Mode, I recommend contacting my teammates in Customer Support for more specific truobleshooting.  You can find their contact information here www.htc.com/support.

Let us know how these troubleshooting solutions help you and if you have any further questions!

  • @Corey B,

If you are with HTC, please be aware that WiFi Calling has serious problems on HTC One S. It has nothing to do with safe mode or resetting the phone.

TMobile WiFi calling works fine on my Blackberry 9900 on the same network, so therefore there are serious probs with the HTC One S phone. Basically it is unusable for WiFi calling, and in my location I have no TMobile signal. There are lots of complaints r.e. WiFi calling also on the TMobile support site.

    @shocwave,

You should try a work-around by setting WiFi Advanced Settings to ENABLE "WiFi Best Performance."

And turn off any 3rd party Apps that do power or battery management, since they try to manage WiFi settings.

That got rid of my phone's crackle/pops for the most part, but not all...I still hear sharpness & pops in the sound of incoming voices, whereas my BB9900 sounds pretty good.

The problem is that work-around totally drains your battery life and fast.

I also experience very long delay in the talker-to-receiver round trip time. More then a second of delay, whereas BB is very short delay on the same network.

Please fix WiFi calling, HTC! It appears to be working OK on the Galaxy S3 since there are no reports of WiFi calling problems in their forums.

  • The HTC One wifi calling is horrible.  Un-useable.  It relates nothing to resets or settings.
