  • I recently switched from the HTC Kaiser (with 6.1 & spb mobile shell *amazing*) to Android with the Rogers Dream in White. I was excited for the thin sleek design and faster processor. However I have been incredibly disappointed with it's business practicality.

The OS comes with a Microsoft Exchange Sync feature. No security concious organization will have their exchange server publically accessable on the internet. Nor do any secure organizations have wireless. The feature is entirely useless because there is no vpn ability or connectivity to anyones exchange server.

Secondly, there is no active sync support. The HTC Sync 2.0.8 has been an entire headache due to one problem. The contacts are synchronized by their display name, but the display format is ignored. My contacts are all comma seperated in reverse on the Android contact list; others are just outright wrong. When scrolling through the contact list, there is no order. Scratch that, there are two orders. First the list sorts alphabetically through half of my contacts, then at Z it starts over to A again... Like so...

    Adam, Sakar

It's extremely fustrating sorting through the list.

The HTC Sync application was clearly not properly tested before released. And, it wouldn't have taken much effort or internal cost to do it right the first time. Without a proper calendar and contact sync solution, the Android OS will end up a poor hobbiest platform in the footsteps of BeOS!

Please properly test your next release of HTC Sync. Provide a simple display format option, or detect what people have choosen!!

I have already purchased this phone, and i'm mad that i have to continue using it. So please, after a year of its release... Show business professionals the courtesy and provide us with a proper sync solution.

Only start-ups use google calendar. Us enterprise professionals need local machine Active Sync similar functionality.

    I hope someone is listening.

Also, the Google Calendar Sync 0.9.3.5 app has been running on my local outlook notebook for the past 3 weeks. At some point, I now have duplicate meetings and events for every single item. I now have to go through every single item and remove it's duplicate. This includes birthdays, meetings, holidays, reminders, etc....

PS, i have good things to say about the phone outside of business use. It's fast, stable and good looking. I'm just tired of having to write down meeting notes and peoples phone numbers on paper.

So I noticed that there is a newer March 2010 release of HTC Sync... That still didn't fix the suck. Read my blog entry about what your new broken release did to my outlook contacts: www.dj-sures.com/.../2010-05-16+Calgary+Android+Sucks

Seriously, you are the worst developers I have ever experienced. And your lack of response to my initial complaint is proof that you're also the worst at customer support.

  • That's it. This android phone is entirely ridiculous and not refined for corporate use. It's great for basement hackers who still live with their parents. I spent too much time trying to get this phone to replace my HTC Kaiser, and it can't.

I put the Android phone on the shelf, and I'm now using an iPhone 3GS. It's great and Android isn't.
