Judge...I can tell you from experience from using the DINC for about 5 months, that the reception is HORRIBLE!!!!! Dropped calls, static...I am not sure if it is Verizon or the phone? My blackberry curve NEVER had this HORIBLE reception!!! One of the many things wrong with this phone...think long and hard about this purchase...
Are you really that much of a moron you are writing the original poster from April? And the phone has not been out five months.
But you are correct that the phone is a POS for making calls.
Justin,
Why wouldn't someone write the original poster? That's the whole intent of a message board. I started reading this thread around the same time in April, and I check back all the time to see if there are updates.
OP,
Bottom line: there remain problems with the call quality and the antenna's ability to hold a signal; you might want to wait until an update (hopefully) materializes--unless of course, you've pulled the trigger and tried it for yourself by now.
I have poor signal and voice quality and battery life. I got a replacement and so far the signal and voice quality issues remain the same. The other phone features are good but anything relating to calling is not.
Google maps directions killed the battery in a matter of an hour. Don't get lost too far from a charger. whats the deal?
jessica-you can write the original poster, sure. He probably has been stewing over what to do for the last few months.
Yes, the ironic thing about the DINC is that the cooler the app, the more battery it sucks (google maps, gps, pandora). I am not sure if this is the case for all smartphones or what. I assume that there is a correlation, but not sure to what extent. Same thing if you want the weather updated regularly, or not.
But don't you worry, HTC is working on a fix. It is gonna improve reception and the battery. ETA is top secret. Hopefully you do not need to make any calls or get lost between now and then. But we will still charge you 100 bucks a month at verizon.
It is now June 26. I got my Incredible on the first day it became available, April 29, and have relied on it heavily ever since. I still have yet to experience my first dropped call, indoors, outdoors, in a basement, in my car, in elevators, ANYWHERE, or even my first attempt to access any website or my email that failed, OR EVEN SLOWED DOWN, even when my display showed ZERO bars.
I live in the Washington, D.C., area where one expects spectacular coverage from Verizon, but my sister's experience is similar to mine, although she got hers much later. She lives in a largely rural area east of Fredericksburg, Virginia, where you might expect spottier coverage, but her reception is rock solid, despite the shortage of bars on the display.
If HTC makes it even better, that will be lovely, but in my case utterly superfluous.
@Flatworm - My experience is exactly the same as yours. I travel in the Sierra Nevada Mountains frequently and this phone has worked everywhere including 3 specific locations where I have never seen any phone be able to make phone calls. Maybe we are just lucky. LOL. But like I said previously, to keep this in perspective, hundreds of thousands of these things have been sold and there are less than 100 people on this forum having this issue (yes I realize that some people having the issue may not be on the forum, but still there are hundreds of thousands of these phones out there).
I wish I were RodgerThat, I have had two htc phones before this and my family all has EnV3 LGs and this is the worst reception at my house ever. I love th phone I just want to get what I used to get, I thought we were going forward with this device not backward. Only two things I need in this phone better reception and the ability to control bluetooth calling from the earpiece (i've been told that will come in Froyo 2.2.
Well congrats to the thread for going over 200. Silent minority my a%%. I am on my third phone so I think if the odds of me getting three crappy phones are really small. Add to it that the third phone I got does not go into landscape mode. Thanks Verizon. When I talk to them, they just try to cover their own a$$es. I guess I am lucky that landscape does not work, cause they will not send me a 4th phone until I bring it into the store and show them. The reception still sucks, but a sales rep could debate that with me. There will be no debates on the landscape issue.
I just do not understand why the same two morons roger that and Flatworm keep writing the same damn thing. We heard you two the first time. Please read the other posts that clearly state HTC and Verizon have acknowledged the issue. Or call HTC and complain just for kicks and see the bullcrap response you get.
I will never use an HTC product again. And I warn anyone that does. I am sure what product to go to next. Moto X seems like the next option. I do not recommend Sprint and I have never used an Iphone. But I bet an Iphone would work on Verizon network, unlike DINC. I could care less about AT&T.
Verizon though has really turned me off. They should be proactive and offer all customers refunds instead of this bullcrap I have gone through. I try not to take out my frustration on the customer service people, who are just doing their jobs covering their employer's a$$es, but come clean verizon. What a mess for them. Bunch of crappy phones are gonna pile up in their offices.
OVER 200. Hmmmmm. Sounds like a record.
Thanks so much to everyone for sharing your experiences and for reposting any info gleaned *anywhere*. I had thought i had purchased the lemon phone from hell, so frustrated, i am tempted daily to throw it against the wall. so imagine my relief when a just for kicks google search turned up this and similar threads.
have posted a ticket with htc, will follow up with a visit to the local verizon store monday. if nothing else, i'll browse the various models and perhaps decide to chuck this clunker. Unfortunately, where i am, AT&T not an option due to extremely poor coverage. verizon has got the best coverage hands down. have been a verizon customer in the same georgraphic area for about four years and two previous phones, including a blackberry, and have NEVER had such isssues with inability to receive calls, vm msgs or carry on a simple conversation.
i agree, the apps, very nice, the screen is very pretty, oh what fun to scroll left, right, up, down, and oh look, even more apps to download, woo hoo - but i have to make sure i leave my home daily with both the wall charger and the car charger to make it through the day, and not for nothing, but IT'S A PHONE, one should be able to use it as such.
for those of you lucky enough to have either purchased the picks of the litter or who live in areas with much better signal, count your blessings. truly, this is not a user issue but a manufacturer issue.
and as such, doubtful the nice people at verizon can do much but log the complaints; perhaps by dint of sheer numbers verizon can then strong arm htc into investing the appropriate resources to develop a speedy fix. because judging from the resounding silence from the htc peanut gallery one can only interpret as the official reply to this thread, does not appear to be anyone at the PTB level with any sort of concern for client support or satisfaction :s
@Justin - you are obviously the moron. You keep posting the same thing also...to paraphrase "Mine doesn't work". I never said the problems people are having are made up or that HTC & Verizon haven't acknowledged that there is a problem. I have empathized with your situation and your frustration (not sure if it was this thread or another). To state clearly, once again...I had the same problems with my BB Storm and finally on the 4th or 5th phone I got one that worked killer. Pull your head out, stop crying on here, and exchange the phone again or go to a different model. Most importantly, stop being a douche and criticizing everyone that isn't joining your pity party. Better change your name to JustinMotorolaRazor. This phone may not work for everyone, but it works for me.
Happy it works for you Roger.
So, why are you posting on a forum that's intended for people to report problems with their phones? Who's the "moron"?
I have had a Droid Incredible for about one month and I just needed to make a 9-1-1 call for a vehicle burglary in progress in my neighborhood. The reception on the phone was terrible. I could not understand the 9-1-1 calltaker and he was having a hard time understanding me while I was standing outside trying to give the 9-1-1 calltaker a description of the burglar. I hurried into the house and called in again on an old Motorola 815 and had no trouble communicating with the 9-1-1 calltaker. I had been suspicious about the Incredible because when the phone was shipped ... and I needed to activate the phone, I couldn't get a good enough signal to activate the phone. The rep from Verizon assured me that the phone has fantastic reception. I had to activate it manually. I was also suspicious about the reception because areas where I have never had trouble with Verizon reception, were giving me trouble (like missing syllables from the person I was talking too). I just rid myself of a Motorola Droid because I felt the software interface and design of the phone was the worst phone I ever had. I am highly pleased with the software and design of the HTC Droid Incredible. But it appears now that the reception of that Motorola Droid was better than the HTC Incredible. While the Droid Incredible text messaging and Internet has worked almost flawlessly and the voice recognition for text messaging is fantastic, it is a shame that first and utmost important feature of the phone -- voice communication -- is flawed. Both the Motorola 815 and the Motorola Droid have three bars (Droid had, it's de-activated) ... the HTC Droid Incredible has zero or one bar. With the Motorola 815 I could talk in my basement with no trouble. With the Incredible I had trouble on a critical call while I was standing outside. The burglar was apprehended ... thanks to the Motorola 815.
CHGO--We can only hope the burglar (HTC and Verizon) get apprehended for selling a defective device.
@Rogerthat---When you decide to pour on misleading comments to potential new purchasers with Flatworm (the king of morons), then I can not help but lump you in with that loser.
I will keep complaining until Verizon and HTC make this right with me. I will keep writing for people to stay away from this defect. Why you choose to keep writing positive things about a phone that has so many unsatisfied customers who spent their hard working dollars in a tough economy is beyond me.
The droid incredible is a sad excuse for a phone. The reception has not worked on three that I have gotten. Both Verizon and HTC have not been close to caring about it. They insult me by acting like it is not a big deal.
And to the guy who has not seen other website complaining, you got to be kidding me.

Wake up HTC and Verizon. You need to make things right, and fast.
