Regarding your comment about android not having an official notes/tasks app being the basis for the lack of sync.  Yes, that's the general understanding and I'm sure all of us hope that by posting here and on google's code site that we encourage either company to create them.

work is running exchange 2007 and I didn't have any problems getting my outlook calendar and contacts to pull right into my incredible.  i do wish that i could see my tasks and notes though.  would prefer to refrain for spending money, but would be willing to fork out some coins if the app is bullet proof!

megsaint is right on point with her recommendation. Gsync is the Bomb! Rutabaga should stay as far away as possible from CompanionLink, just read the CNET reviews on it and you will run as fast as your snapdragon will allow.

I too want my notes and tasks!!  I actually want my calendar, mail and contacts too.  I am forced to use GoodLink by my company and Good uses a completely different calendar, contact, and mail app from the Incredible apps provided. . . I miss Blackberry where it was all one.

I want to push them on allowing ActiveSync, but before I do can someone tell me if it does indeed sync the contacts, calendar , and mail with the phone app rather than creating separate ones like GoodLink?  Thanks for any help, sorry if this is too off topic.

Has anyone also found that long comments within Outlook Contacts are getting ruthlessly TRUNCATED by the HTC SYNC program?  I know I am.

I spoke to the guys at CompanionLink, and they said it's a restriction within the Incredible (I'll assume the HTC Touch OS) itself.

Like many here: I love the Incredible, but it's starting to smell of failure regarding business uses.

I'm just piling on for emphasis on this topic. HTC, market developers.....anybody? We need an app that will take Outlook notes & tasks and import them into the Incredible. Missing my BB bad on this subject. I'd hate to have to go back, but this may become a deal breaker for me. Any new app suggestions?

I moved to the Incredible from a Palm Treo 700wx Windows (built by HTC) and am finding that the integration between the Incredible and Outlook was not very well thought thru; this is NOT a business-oriented device.  For example, there is no CATEGORY feature in the native HTC Calendar app.  I am unable to sort the People (or Contract) database by LastName/Company; it is default to FirstName.  The Contact Card cannot be merged with another contact entry.  HTC SYNC does not work for everyone, especialty me - there is no feature in the PC-based applicaiton to allow for arbitration of conflicts when running SYNC, just a preconfigured HANDSET/PC Mastering.  When an item is deleted, clicking on the entry in the deletion log does NOT provide all the data in the origonal contact card so you can put it back into either the Incredible People or Calendar database or to Outlook.  Why would I want to send a TEXT message to a FAX phone number (yes, I realize that people might use this as an additonal placeholder for another cellphone...) similar to sending a TEXT message to a Home or Work phone number. Why when I click on the address field in a contact card do I not get the option to see te entire address vs. just launching Google Maps and attempting to display the location?  Is there a benefit to creating the entry on the Phone vs (one of many) Google EMail accounts?  Is there a way to RESTORE People entries that have been backed up using the native BACKUP application?

Being told that most of these "features" are not included is a non-starter, as HTC has overlayed the HTC Sense wrapper over the Android OS.

I, for one, prefer to use the native applicaitons for Calendar and People so when the manufacturer of the phone (HTC) finally fixes SYNC, all my Outlook information (Contacts, Calendar, Notes, Tasks) that are used day-to-day are properly exchanged/ammended/updated without my having to think twice about whether I once again lost my son's contact card and need to recreated it from my old Treo.  This will be a deal breaker for me and force me back into either a Windows or BB device.

And while I'm on the subject of interfaces, why when you are entering People data (ie. Phone numbers or addresses) does the Phone Numbers fields not default to a (configurable) North American phone number format (ie. (xxx) xxx-xxxx) with parenthesis or capitalization of both characters in a state abbreviation (per US Postal regulations - ie. NY for New York vs Ny or MA for Massachusetts vs Ma)?  Both of these examples make the data much more readable, especially the phone number entries.  Also, Organization and Job Title are displayed as run together when displayed in the People display.

Additionally, there is no default clickable field for entering a Website, only a choice of using one of the IM fields.  Finally, there is no field that can be (default) renamed to always come up with that default field display name (unless I missed it while crawling over the interfaces).

DIT nailed it.  It's those reasons that make the incredible super unreliable in regards to contacts/calendar.  I upgraded from my handspring visor deluxe (circa 1999) and that thing was bulletproof in how reliable it was.  Now when I sync the incredible I'm not sure if all of my PC data will be duplicated, deleted, truncated (if you edit a contact in the droid that had a lot of data in the notes field and then sync it, the truncated version replaces the original and the notes are lost) or if everything will just disappear (my droid calendar just vanished one day with all of my calendar data in it).

It's so frustrating with how unreliable the contacts/outlook portion of the phone is.  I've learned to just use the incredible as "read only" and just update everything in outlook and push it down to the phone...which isn't very practical when not at my desk.

I experienced similar frustration with the migration from a Palm 755p running Garnet (Palm OS 5.4) to my Dinc.  Outlook Exchange painlessly synchronized contacts and calendar (maintaining categories ported over from TimeMatters, my *real* desktop PIM.  Getting notes over was more problematic, and I still can't get them to synchronize regularly.

Tasks came across via Dataviz' Roadsync without any issues.

Note quite as "elegant" as Palm synchronization was, but as it is, I definitely prefer life with the Dinc to the 755p at this point.

ROFLOL...actually I am having the same problem as rutabaga, and loved the replies.  Thanks for the help, since the HTC Sync DOES NOT WORK, not does it recognize the Incredible phone.  I will do as you have suggested and look elsewhere.  Too bad that HTC has not fixed this problem.  I love this phone.  Oh well, am taking my Diet Pepsi and am tapping my way over to the Android Market!!!  Thanks again for the help!  :)

Newbie here.  15 year user of Treo/Palm/Handspring.  (yes, that means I am over 22!)  So... bottom line, does anyone have a reliable solution for getting all of my Outlook to automatically update and sync with my new Incredible?  I use TONS of notes and memos from Outlook in any given week, sometime on my PC, sometimes on my handheld device.  I don't mind paying for Companion, or GSync, if they reliably do the job.  What I am looking for is synchronization of Calendar, Contacts, Email, Notes.  And I guess Tasks would be a nice bonus. Oh, and a genie in a bottle while I am asking!  Maybe I am missing something, but it sounds like GSync would do what I need.  Are there any users out there that can comment on reliablilty?  If it is relatively seamless, I'm too green to understand why some of you are commenting that you don't want to go through Google/Gmail/Gsync to get this accomplished.

CORRECTION TO ABOVE POST -

cut me some slack - I already said I was a newbie!  I mentioned GSync above.  I think I was referring to GSyncIt 2.  I humbly stand open to correction and differentiation between these 2 programs.

@mkraus:  The main issue about not routing through google/gmail/etc. is (for me at least) to keep corporate, potentially sensitive and protected health information (PHI) secured and traveling directly to the device via MS Exchange.

Take a look at B-Folders for notes synchronization.  It's not a direct synchronization with Outlook, but it's a one-license per user (regardless of number of computers) plus an Android application.  I took all my notes from my "real" personal information/practice management software (TimeMatters) and dumped them into B-Folders which is now installed on every computer I access (office, home and netbook).  I keep all synced with my Dinc.  The major benefit over programs such as Evernote is that the notes do not exist in the cloud --- they are on your computer, safe and secure, such as your system may be.

I found Companion Link not to work reliably, after about a ten day trial.  I, like others here, absolutely hate Google's iteration of contacts, calendar and tasks, so syncing Exchange to Google had the sole effect of forcing my Dinc to download a duplicate set of contacts (and thereby produce the "low memory" message on a routine basis).

Now the only thing I sync with Google is gmail (and Google Docs when I choose to use them). I sync Outlook Tasks via Dataviz Roadsync to my Dinc (I do *not* use the HTC email application ever).  I sync Exchange Contacts and Calendar directly to the Dinc.  I avoid Outlook Notes altogether (they're not robust enough); prefering B-Folders as per above.

You can also look at Noteworthy Pro which may have the ability to import/export to/from Exchange.
