I purchased an HTC Incredible from Verizon. It will not pair with my car's Bluetooth electronics. The car is a 2006 BMW M3. The BMW service says that the problem is with the Incredible's Bluetooth software. I have successfully connected to my car with other Verizon phones from Samsung and LG. Additionally the HI is not listed on the BMW compatible website http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/Owner/BluetoothYourBMW/CurrentlyAvailableCompatiblePhones.aspx
Thanks.
I'm having the same issue with my '09 BMW 135i. The pairing process seems to go along like normal and then the phone just never connects with the car. Also tried to pair with a friend's '11 BMW M3, and another 135i. My Motorola Droid paired with all of them no problem. This is a deal-breaker for me. I must drive hands-free. Hoping someone has a fix.
FWIW, same problem with 2004 Prius. Looks like it's pairing, but after it's done, it doesn't show up.
The issue you are running into it talked about in a previous post I made concerning Bluetooth. Basically the current implementation of bluetooth on the HTC Sense phones is behind the most recent version of 2.1 Eclair Android. They need to fix this with an OTA update.
It is likely that the BMW supports a profile format called SPP. The Incredible is running a previous Bluetooth version from either 1.5 or 1.6 Android. Not sure which but the reason you can't connect even though it pairs is because the low level connectivity doesn't exist in the operating system on the incredible. This is why it just sit there and can never find the device after it pairs.
HTC. You need to fix this now.
Yeah this REALLY needs to be addressed. Using the KeyPro application on my old G1 I could pair and use my i.Tech virtual laser bluetooth keyboard with the phone and it doesn't work with the Incredible, meaning it has to be the 1.5 version because I remember they added a lot of bluetooth support with Cupcake 1.6. Currently, in the field of Bluetooth, my G1 is more advanced than my Incredible.
And with the TV out support and the vastly superior processor, I'd jump on a Bluetooth game controller for my emulators if they'd fix Bluetooth support.
HTC hasn't done anything to rectify this major problem. I just purchased an Incredible and the Bluetooth on my '09 Infiniti G35 doesn't even find my device. Verizon tech support was useless, and blamed it on Infiniti.
What's the fix, HTC?
The fix is for HTC to stop messing with the Android bluetooth socket.
This is something I came across on why the Incredible will not work with SPP equipment.
And in this version they replaced the Google BluetoothSocket implementation with their own crap which uses a class called BluetoothSppPort. This class is not open source and has no field or method for using a Bluetooth channel instead of an UUID. The private constructor of BluetoothSocket with the Bluetooth channel / port is not working (I get an invalid UUID IOException). The only solution (in my point of view) to prevent HTC to do this in future Android versions is the simple switch from private to public in the BluetoothSocket constructor and / or the createRfcommSocket method in BluetoothDevice class.
That is the explanation I found from the July 9 post on here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=5427
My question is despite HTC continuously denying that they changed any of the Android bluetooth stacks (a blantant lie) will they leave the Android stacks alone in 2.2 and let us get back functionality we should have had at delivery?
I hope that their use of this private socket rather than the public one was not hardware related - if so we all just got screwed.
Just to add more data points, I am having strange interactions with my Audi A3 TDI bluetooth also, just about to unpair the phone and the car as the darn thing drops periodically during a drive (never during an active call but when not active. Phone and Car pair repeatedly during the drive.
First of all--nice car!
Second--I had no problems pairing my Incredible with my '08 535i. In fact, it seems to pair up faster than my old Samsung Omnia.
Hope you've had success since your post.
Hey, any update on the Incredible bluetooth/car issue? I'm trying - unsuccessfully - to pair with a 2011 Nissan Maxima. Same issues as most of you have: looks like it's paired, but it's not. I get the headset disconnected message. If I place a call, it looks like it's dialing, but it doesn't. Totally useless.
May as well give up now. Sorry not trying to be negative but realistic because HTC are doing nothing to fix these issues.
My story is similar, same issues when trying to pair the phone.. For some reason HTC are messing with the bluetooth code and now lots of people are having this issue. I spoke to HTC custom support yesterday and the person helping was at first real positive and helpful but after putting me on hold she then told me sorry HTC do not guarantee that the phones will work with all devices. Then speaking really low so no one else could hear she told me it was an HTC issue because for some stupid reason they change parts of the bluetooth code. I'll be taking the sensation back to Tmobile today, great phone but hands free in the car is a must have.
