Poor Signal/Reception - Major Issue

  • I returned my Incredible today. I did not have any issues with call quality. The problem with mine was that the phone simply wasn't receiving calls after being left alone for about an hour or so. So even if you think your calls sound fine, I wonder if your phone is really ringing each time someone calls you.

A couple of interesting side notes about Verizon. First off, even though I ordered the phone online for $199 after a $100 instant rebate, my most recent bill shows a $323 equipment charge. Verizon says that I didn't get the $100 credit because I didn't order online, even though I most certainly did. I'm willing to bet that they will only give me the $199 credit and I'll have to make yet another call to customer service to get the full refund.

The second thing is that customer service told me that they've extended the 30 day return policy to 60 days for the Incredible since it's taking so long for everyone to receive them.

  • I ordered my phone online so I got the $100 instant rebate.  However, when I got a replacement I ordered it on the phone with the support person.  To get the rebate on the replacement I had to do the rebate by mail.  It did only take two weeks to get the rebate, which shows up as a credit card.

  • I ordered mine online too, so I was *supposed* to get the $100 instant rebate. In fact, the statement that came with the phone showed that I got the rebate too. But when I examined my monthly bill online, they had charged me the extra $100. So even if you think that you got the instant rebate, you'd better check your online billing.

  • I talked to an HTC tech today.  While they didn't say anything would ever be done about this flaw they did read at least the first page of this thread.  They said they would make a note of it and mention it to someone.

  • I thought I could report something good today. Just received my replacement phone and the same issue. Bad voice quality and it starts as usual with ring back itself.

Good thing I have ordered an iPhone 4 yesterday. I hate going back to at&t since the reason I switched to Verizon was the coverage and the Incredible.

I still have 2 weeks to return the phone. Thank you very much everyone for posting some great comments on this forum. At least it shows that we are not alone.

  • So verizon called me today, and said sorry about your troubles.

They were not willing to do anything outside the box thinking wise.  I could switch to a Moto droid even though there is a newer version coming out in a month.  But guess what, they will waive a restocking fee.  Hello?  The phone is defective, this is not a courtesy.  The keypad was messed up on my first Dinc, and the wifi does not work on the second Dinc.

I asked if I could go with a basic phone like the Sansung intensity which says is free on the website, and be credited the difference of my original purchase.  Can they force me to take another smart phone?  Then I would just go to a basic data plan and they would be out the $30 extra bucks a month and should credit me $199.  They are going to get back to me.  I am tempted to just take the Moto Droid, but I feel like they win if I agree to that.

Such a joke.  And @flatworm, you really make no sense.  I said the wifi did not work on my second phone, and never claimed this was a problem with all Dincs.  It worked on my first phone which had keypad issues.  I'm not just calling you a moron to be funny or be rude. You really seem like one, no offense.  Your posts are really pointless as you just say the same thing.

  • Actually my reception has actually improved over the last couple weeks.  Anyway, I have an incredible story.... I was in a car accident today... my phone was in my left hand during the accident...it flew out of the car about 15 feet and landed on the street... it came about but, the screen didn't crack!!! I put it all back together and it worked fine!!! Incredible... OK I'm sold now!!!

  • Ok, I am sure you have heard about this solution (you can always go back) but it does work to clear a lot problems with our "Incredible" phones:

You need to change the settings for EVRC to go to EVRC-B. If you need to learn more here is a good link:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_Variable_Rate_Codec_B

    Dial ##7764726 call

    • Then enter 000000 as passcode
    • NAM CDMA Settings
    • Scroll Down
    • Change the following 3 settings to EVRC-B
    • "Preferred voice service for HOME PAGE; HOME ORIGINATION;  ROAM ORGINATION
    • Press Menu and Commit Changes
    • Phone will restart

If after this you do not see an improvement: It means you moved from GSM technology to CDMA! Welcome! It works much differently and you are not used to this voice quality, because it encodes the voice and sends it fundamentally different then GSM!

So if that does not work, get a GSM phone from a friend, co-worker or significant other, and if you like how the voice sounds on GSM (AT&T or T-Mobile) then you belong in GSM camp!

I am heading back there! It was crazy fun, but I need perfect voice quality to conduct business.

    Thank you.

This is NOT a CDMA issue. Every one of my other Verizon and Sprint CDMA phones has clear-as-a-bell audio. In fact, I also tested an AT&T GSM Samsung. Sound quality is not nearly as good...AND I dropped calls like crazy. I've borrowed a t-Mobile phone and can't hear as well as I do on Verizon.

I currently carry the Sprint EVO - sounds AWESOME and a Verizon Palm Centro. Also sounds awesome. The same thing would happen on your GSM network if there was a flaw with the phone (software or hardware!). Good luck conducting business with dropped calls....

  • My boyfriend and I just received our 2 Incredibles, neither of us can push past the 1-2 bar strength, never have seen the 3g light up or work. Called Verizon they did a reset on the phone, no help. Went yesterday to the Verizon store, for the first time ever had 3 bars and it wouldn't connect to the internet in the store. Soon as I am out of range on my router, everything internet just drops. I am highly disappointed, Verizon tells me it's a hardware issue. And he also noted this is the reason you can't get the Incredible until July from them. We are going to contact the company (3rd party) who sold us the phone, I emailed HTC. I love the phone but it is a deal breaker for me. We have accessories we purchased and some on the way this is truly frustrating, esp if I have to send it all back and decide on a new phone.

  • there are so many posts all over the internet about this issue, that should have made you reconsider buying the phone..

return it before your 30 days are up, and get an EVO4g!

  • If Verizon and HTC don't come up with a solution soon, then the best solution for Incredible users may be to file a class action suit.

  • @ Kat. I hear you.  People who say just return the phone in 30 days do not get that you may have bought accessories online, have given up a special phone plan with a prior provider, and all the other hassles and wastes of time.  And for me, I switched to Verizon, put my wife on a family plan.

@Badmans, a class action would take forever and just not solve the immediate problems people have who need to make calls.  It couldn't hurt.

I am focuing more of my angst against Verizon, cause they are the ones who are getting my dollars on a go forward basis.  HTC I am just not going to by another product ever again.  I write on the HTC board because this forum is for me to vent with other DINC owners.

I am getting my third recycled DINC this week.  I am passed my 30 days though and I do not believe it resets each time.

People need to keep calling Verizon and complaining.  Ask for Debbie in Carolina area.  She is aware of the issues.  She did not give me her direct line though.

  • I too purchased additional accessories for my (and my wife's) Incredible “phones” and spent several hundred dollars to leave T-Mobile early for this device on Verizon.

Both Verizon and HTC have acknowledged the call quality issue with this device and both say we need to wait for an update to fix it.  But, there is no ETA for that update.  Meanwhile, we have to keep apologizing to callers that we can't understand.

I don't think the Incredible has been delayed due to lack of parts (screens) as has been widely circulated...I think it's because they can't fix the many issues with the Incredible and don't want to release more until it's resolved.  I'm running out of patience.

  • Judge...I can tell you from experience from using the DINC for about 5 months, that the reception is HORRIBLE!!!!!  Dropped calls, static...I am not sure if it is Verizon or the phone?  My blackberry curve NEVER had this HORIBLE reception!!!  One of the many things wrong with this phone...think long and hard about this purchase...
