  • All my text messages have been deleted randomly as well. When mine got deleted I didn't have that many messages so its impossible I reached a limit. I checked on my phone and I dont have a limit on text messages anyways.

This is about the 3rd time its happened to me. Its pretty lame. I guess I need an sms backup application? meh

  • just happened to me today. appears it has been going on for months and no sign of any solution from htc.

  • Same thing happened to me. My entire history of text messages just disappeared. Delete old messages is not checked in settings, I delete manually, so while I had a decent amount of texts, that's not the issue and it does it per conversation anyway, based on the limits you set. There is no way I manually deleted all of them, especially since some were locked. An entire archive of messages should not just go missing, that's unacceptable. Verizon tech support was a waste of time. They told me to update my software. I already had Froyo (Android 2.2) and do the *228 thing every month. She claimed that this "should" prevent rhis from happening again and her only explanation was perhaps it was a defect on my phone. When I asked what to do it if happens again, she said to call back and they'll do a hard reset to factory settings. Are you kidding me?! Apparently I'm not the only one with this issue. I'm very disappointed and hope there is a fix for this someday.

Anyone know of a good way to backup sms/mms? I lost a lot of important information and personal messages I wanted to keep.

Look in the marketplace for an app named SMS backup. It takes all your messages and places them in a file in your email. I use Gmail and I set up a folder to accept the messages.

  • Try My Backup Pro, available in the marketplace or from www.rerware.com.

    I think there's a free version.

It's one of several free apps that will backup SMS messages.

  • This issue happened to me today (March 29, 2011).  Spoke with HTC on the phone and got the whole, "Yes, we are aware of this issue and are working on it."  From the looks of this forum, it has been an issue since September 2011.  Six + months is far too long to be "working on a fix" for an issue.  Many people keep text messages containing valuable information.  To be told by HTC, "Sorry, too bad, nothing we can do" after having 2000 messages deleted one day is unacceptable.  I will download the SMS back up software for future use, and you'd better believe my first HTC product will also be my very last.

  • *September, 2010.

  • We have 2 in the house and they are both doing. About once a month our texts get dumped. I spoke to a salesman at the Verizon store and he told me he had no idea what to and he had never heard of this problem. I went home and called Verizon directly ..they put me with a tech ..she claimed she had never heard of the problem ..I told her i had already checked my settings and it has never been set to delete messages. She puts me on hold for 15 min. to finally come back and tell me to check my settings again..grr. I already told her i did that. She then tells me well its just better for me if they auto delete because it saves space ..wtf? really thats your answer ..its just better for me!? She wouldn't even acknowledge that there is a problem.

  • It's not an HTC issue, it's not an Incredible Issue.  It's an Android Issue.

Yes, it has been known about since December of 2009!

Just like Google finally acknowledged the send-to-wrong-address bug, they'll figure this one out.

For now, it's just a bad idea to hang onto more than 200 messages.  The database is too easily corrupted, and that means the Incredible simply dumps it and starts over.

  • Oh, and don't expect any Verizon salesperson --- in the store or on the phone --- to have the foggiest notion of what's going on.  I don't even thing the HTC telephone support folks, and some are quite good, have any idea.  It's always "do a factory reset and it will go away".

I say, root your Incredible, and it may fix it --- but no guarantees there either as to this particular problem.

  • There is an app to back up your text messages to your gmail. My incredible deletes my messages randomly too or space is full so i have to delete my messages to clear up space and now with the back up I don't worry about it anymore. When the phone randomly deletes it all you lose your locked messages too so i love the app and I have it set to back up my messages like every 30 mins. The application is SMS Backup+ and i love it now. It just backs up to your gmail and you can get into your gmail and there is a SMS folder and you can see your messages. I hope this helps! I love my Incredible but I would cuss it every time it deleted my messages!

  • Oh yeah ... and you can print your messages from your gmail account... just in case you need them for something! :)

  • This continues to be a recurring problem, has happened multiple times to me. I'm using 2 apps to deal with it. SMS Backup by Christoph Studer automatically backs up to a Gmail account. I assign them a SMS label and have them marked as read so my texts are pretty much constantly being archived to my Gmail for me, this way I can still access them when I lose them all on my Incredible. However, I want to be able to restore all those texts that Android deletes on me, so I also use SMS Backup & Restore by Ritesh Sahu to run a scheduled backup of my texts that saves to my SD card and can be restored when my inbox gets erased.

  • We have 4 HTC Incredible Froyo’s in the household and it occurs randomly to all of them.

Yesterday, it occurred to 2 of us and I suspect

A The network is causing the glitch

B An app on the unit polling for updates or other is triggering it

C It is a VIRAL issue triggered by someone sending you a text

When I went to send my daughter a message, my messages were all gone. For me this was not so critical as I only had dozens of old messages.

After I sent my daughter her message, she said her messages were all gone as well!!!

I don’t know if it happened to both of us at the same time, or my message caused hers to fail.

Both of us have auto delete disabled, she had many messages, and I had few. So the quantity of messages is not the trigger.

  • This has happened to me at least three times now for no apparent reason (I don't send/receive many text messages, so I'm not hitting some kind of limit as others have suggested may be the culprit). I started using SMS Backup, which is free and works well. Of course, it would be great to not have to worry about the phone randomly deleting things in the first place...
