After wiping out battery stats, reboot the phone Then power it off & charge it until the green light comes on unplug the charger and charge...

ProdigyDBSP, that is the best, most common sense, thorough post ever. Thanks so much for laying out your thoughts. It's a shame about this defect and lack of accountability by HTC and Verizon. Was a big HTC and Droid fan but think I'll be going the iPhone route next time.
