Hi there..
Currently I have the HTC Thunderbolt. One of the apps is the Navigation which gives turn by turn audio directions. It is one of my favorite apps.
Now I am planning on getting the Windows 8X phone but I have read that this phone does not have a similar app, such as turn by turn audio directions. Does it?
Thanks..
Windows Phone 8 has a built-in Maps app which can provide driving directions. You can even download map data for any region ahead of time so that you don't have to have an active Internet connection when you need directions. However, they are not spoken aloud and if you make a wrong turn, you will need to tell it to recalculate (it doesn't happen automatically). That said, third party developers are able to provide GPS style mapping applications through the app store and these can fully integrate into the phone such that you can get directions using your voice, have directions read to you, launch into the GPS app from any other app that is showing an address (like a person's contact card), etc. I'm aware of one app in particular that's really popular because it's super cheap (one time fee of $2), called gMaps Pro. It uses Google's mapping services. I'm not sure on specifics about it because I haven't tried it myself, but you can read more here:http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/gmaps-pro/5fad1b41-f8db-4397-b584-4a0da12fe233The Nokia branded Windows Phones include a nice turn-by-turn navigation app called Nokia Drive, free of charge. This app isn't currently available to HTC Windows Phone customers... I hope HTC will decide to offer it or something comparable soon, but who knows.
I downloaded the Verizon navigation program......does appear that verizon charges for it any longer
