  • well I read earlier on this feed (a january post) that the ringtones would be customizable next month (february) its April...still no update that allows it.  I've synced the ringtone through zune...no luck.  I had it sent as a text message...no luck.

It took me about 4 websites to figure out how to sync my outlook calendar with my phone...that was a nightmare.

  • Hello evry body and Jim.

I am a new user of HTC hd7 it is very hard to understand of how to install touch explorer app in my phone can you or anyone help me install this one. And I really crazy of phone ringtone too

  • custom ringtones won't be available until the mango update (about 6 months from now) is released

  • @Dethyun: In order to install TouchXplorer on your phone it needs to be unlocked. There are two ways to do that. Either purchase a developer license from Microsoft (you can unlocked up to three pnones with once license) or if your phone does not yet have the NoDo update installed. Try entering WP7 Chevron Unlock into Bing to learn more.

@Bsavley: Mango will make it possible for third party developers to download ringtones to your phone, but we still don't know exactly what that will mean. Licensed ringtones for a fee or a service that will allow me to upload my custom ringtone to a third party who will download it to my phone. Several of my ringtones are original music, not available anywhere but on my PC. There was no mention of being able to add ringtones via Zune for example. I hope the rintone feature will be complete and robust but didn't want to wait till the fall and be dissapointed.

BTW, WP7 currently has a folder labeled My Documents\My Ringtones, exactly the same as the old Windows Mobile. Drop a WMA or MP3 file into that folder and you can assign that ringtone to any contact. Still don't understand why they didn't enable downloadable ringtones right from the start as all the mechanics are already available on our phones. Nothing to update.

@Jim,  is this folder and process only available when using the TouchXplorer software?

    Thx

  • @RaceVW01: Well you do need an unlocked device to access the file system. Not sure of any other File Managers out there aside from TouchXplorer, so you might have to poke around XDA-Developers for that. Although TouchXplorer is supposed to work on all HTC devices.

I decided to pay for a developers license ($99/year) and legally unlock my phone. You can unlock three phones with a single license, so if you and two other friends for example shared the cost, you could be unlocked for $33. For the things you can do; install ringtones, fix broken live tiles, test beta versions of software, change theme colors, it's sort of worth it. Or you can wait for Mango and see how things work out.

  • Cant we get a petition started, maybe that would help. I really don't want to pay for a license to do something we should be able to do in the first place.

  • Microsoft made clear how ringtones will work in the Mango update, and it's good news. You will be able to sync ringtones directly from Zune desktop to your phone. Developers will also be able add a feature to turn any non-DRM protected sound byte on your phone into a ringtone, through their apps. Only requirements are that the ringtone cannot be more than 39 seconds long, 1MB in size, and either WMA or MP3 format. So you will be able to make ringtones from any song on your PC, even original recordings, like a child giggling. Yeah, we have to wait for Mango, but I think Microsoft got this one right.

  • I was looking for the same thing in the last month. I want to create  ringtones but could not find apps at all. I hope HTC comes out with something soon.

  • They are done building mango and are at the RTM stage (phone manufacturers are going through it now) but they are still taking WAAAAAAAAAAY too long for this. I sometimes feel like I have half a phone without this update, plus I want the new IE9 browser.

  • i have a htc surround from att and i would like to know how to get ringtones for my phone

  • I'm glad to hear that HTC comes out with mango.. Its about time...can't wait

  • Find the ringtone you want.

Put the ringtone in Mymusic (or the folder that Zune uses for your Collection)

Open Zune and plug your phone into your computer

Go to Collection and find the ringtone

Right Click on the ringtone and select "Edit"

An Edit Song Info box pops up.

In the Genre box, type the word Ringtone.

Drag the ringtone to your phone

Go to your phone setting and Ringtones & Sounds

You'll find the new ringtone on your list and ready to use

There are a couple of restrictions:

    1. WMA or MP3 only

    2. File must be less than 1 MB in size

    3. Audio must be less than 30 seconds in length

  • I use Adacity to trim my music/file down to ringtone size.  The proceedure for using the ringtone is just as Jeb1217 states above...couldn't be easier!

It's nice to have this feature (and others) back on a Win OS phone.  :-D

  • Thanks...!! I don't know if I did it right... I had follow all the rules...but I somehow could not get it to show up on the Ringtone & Sound... I have noticed

that you've said it has to be less than 30 seconds in audio..How do you minimize the audio to less than 30 sec.?
