  • Terrible call quality!!!

My whole family is having terrible call quality with our Titans. We even went to the ATT store to try experiemtning with new devices (we've only had ours for a week) and even new ones out of the box sounded terrible. Everyone is complaining that I sound marbled and distorted. This isn't acceptable -- HTC, if this isn't fixed, we wont have any choice other than to return these devices.

  • I'm almost in the same boat.  I have till Friday before I'm locked into a two year contract.  If HTC doesn't address the issues then I might have to return my phone.  I would say the three biggest problems are-

    Call quality
    Wifi connectivity problems
    Loud audio pops on songs

All three problems are simply unacceptable.  If I have to return my phone then I'm getting a Nokia device next time.

  • Same problem with  terrible call quality here..

  • Same here. Connection issues and sound quality issues.

  • Same here.  Sound quality issues are making me think about getting rid of the phone

  • Same here, I have a week left to make a decision.  If no acknowledgement of these problems and reports of a future "fix" come out from HTC I think I'm switching to a Samsung Focus S.  My wife has one and it seems to work great other than a poor quality speakerphone.  HTC has to be aware of the problem at this point.  If this forum isn't enough evidence they should start here.... www.wpcentral.com/are-you-having-issues-your-htc-titan

  • I contacted HTC Tech Support regarding the sound quality issue. I have about 25 days left to return the phone and after reading their reply I am convinced that a return is the only thing I can do. Maybe the phone rumored for a February release will have this issue fixed.

    HTC Support:
Thank you John for contacting HTC Technical Support. I'm sorry to hear that your HTC Titan does not function as intended. I am more than happy to be able to provide some clarity to the situation at hand.

We have had some reports of the muffled sound on the HTC Titan. Currently we do not have any information if/when a hotfix will resolve your isssue. I recommend performing a factory data reset on your device. After a factory reset, the phone is restored to its default settings—the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. You will lose any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your phone, and only Windows Mobile software and other pre-installed programs will remain. It is recommended you back up any personal information before performing a reset.

A hard reset is not a fix. I did several hard resets due to an unrelated AT&T issue and the call quality did not change.

  • Same problem here.  Although there's not another phone I can really go to.  The Samsung Focus S was having similar issue as well before i exchanged it with the Titan.  I think it may be the AT&T network?  I really wish Verizon and Microsoft will get their s*** together to get their LTE phones ready!!!

  • I noticed something with my Titan.  When I talk to someone on my Titan there is a difference in voice quality from holding the phone to your ear verses put the phone face down on a table (which puts the phone in speaker mode).  Caller told  me I sounded more natural with the phone face down.

Maybe HTC just needs to put a little grill down where the mic is just like how they have a grill for the part you put your ear on.

  • I'm a U.S. att user. I just phoned HTC at 866-449-8358 and reported the issue. They said it had not been reported before. this is BS. Hundreds are complaining online and several have said specifically that they have called HTC to report it.

SO I ASK: if you're a U.S. customer, please call 866-449-8358 and report it as "muffled microphone" or "muffled call quality" and describe it for them. We have to get an official answer. I hate the idea of returning the phone and getting another one with the same problem or getting a different phone like the Samsung.

  • two titans in my household both with muffled sound isses. others can not here, most pronounced issues are when background noise is highest.

  • I did a simple test first covering neither microphone then both then each mocrophone to find the best quiet room conversation quality was with the primary microphone only covered with my finger.  Please HTC fix this I like the thing.

  • There are a number of threads on this topic over at http://www.wpcentral.com

But here's a thread which has a temp work around to this muffled microphone issue.

    http://forums.wpcentral.com/titan/185144.htm

It basically suggests that we cover with masking or electrical tape the ambient noise microphone hole located just next to the headphone jack. This seems to mitigate the issue and isolates it as one where this upper ambient noise mic is too sensitive, and thus cancels out the high-end of our voices when spoken into the bottom mic, producing a muffled low-end bassy sound.

would love to hear here on this forum if this work around is working for anyone.

  • This is a very frustrating situation, as a former 4 year android user. I am extremely impressed with the Windows  7.5 platform coupled with the great attributes of the Titan. So much so I purchased 3 for immediate family members. I am now at wits end with this audio/microphone issue. I've replaced the phone 3 times and all suffer from the same problem. This is completely unacceptable particularly  when 80 % of my phone calls are business oriented. It saddens me to say but I will be pursuing another device and Android platform. Note: The Focus S is not an option because I cannot stand the overly saturated colors of the Samsung devices.

  • I think that this is one of the problems... consumers trying to find a "fix" instead of demanding better products!

I am on my third Titan and will be returning it today, after two months of kidding myself that

maybe the call quality might get better.

All three Titans I had, had the same problem.

I must say that the call quality on this phone is the worst I have ever used!

On day one my wife went back to her old iPhone and is waithing for the Nokia Lumia 900.

I canceled an order for thirty Titans that I was hoping to have everyone use as a company

    phone.

There are many things I like about this phone but my primary use is making and receiveing

    calls.

The call quality is so awful that it's no fun talking to friends with this phone much less using it for business.

HTC needs to get its' act together and stop dumping crappy products on consumers! And if there is a problem... resolve it!
