My phone has terrible reception both at home and work. I had the original Tilt and it had better reception. I find the signal is better when the 3G switches to 'E'. I talked to AT&T and they said most phones have the option to turn off 3G, but this one does not. Anyone have a "fix" for this? I bought an external antenna, it helps somewhat but I still miss lots of calls. It is very frustrating when people call and cannot get ahold of me. It wouldn't be so bad if I at least knew they called, but with no signal, you don't get missed calles either! I work in the heart of town - everyone else has great reception...except me. I love this phone when it works......
Please help!!!
X 2.
I talked with the ATT store where I purchased it and they looked to see how to turn off 3G but couldn't find it. My old 8125 phone had better signal and basic phone call function. My house is in a so-so cell signal zone to begin with and I had to learn the best signal location in my house.
You need a registry editor for this.
Navigate to HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting
Change the data in ShowUMTSBandPage from 0 (default) to 1.
Now when you go into Settings/Personal/Phone the Band tab is exposed.
To force GSM only and save battery and maybe get a better signal, change the "Select your network type" drop down to 'GSM'. When you try to OK this change you get the following message:"If you change the bandset setting, the PDP context/Data call will be deactivated. Do you want to continue?"Choose Yes and everything seems to be OK. The phone stays in GSM mode and I can still surf the web and get my push email and phone calls. To change back to 3G (if available in your area) just select 'Auto' in the drop down. You will again get that same warning...select Yes. Obviously you shouldn't ever select the WCDMA option.
I found that if I turn Airplame Mode ON and then OFF, or if I turn the Tilt 2 phone OFF and then ON, the phone will go back to 3G even though the Band tab still shows GSM mode. If that is the case for you then change from GSM to Auto and then back to GSM.
This greatly improved the signal in areas where with 3G the phone was practically unusable.
Sounds great, I'd like to try it, but how do I get into the registry to edit it?
I can't find anywhere in file explorer that will take me to the registry.
Perform a websearch for 'Mobile Registry Editor'

I've used it. Had no problems on Tilt2 with WinMo 6.5
