  • for those of you experiemcing sluggines  and want to get more ram.  When you install programs from the marketplace like MS my phone  you do not have the option to install to the storage card like you do from the desktop sites.  This will free up your main storage and program memory  You can do bing and windows live and several others as well as doing 3rd party installs from ther own sites and install to the card.

  • I have Marketplace set to install to my card by default (Menu|Settings) but I wish I got the choice by application during the install. I am guessing MS figures, probably correctly so, that for the typical user that question can be confusing.

  • Anyone know how to get Astraware Sudoku back on the Tilt 2 after the latest ROM update. Mine shipped with it from AT&T and I really want it back.

    Any  help?

  • For upgraders to the new 8/30/2010 Sense 2.5 ROM who found it terribly slow: Don't Despair! There are the things you can do to speed things up (aside from reverting back to the original ROM or installing a custom ROM).

The actual upgrade process on both my Tilt2 and my wife's Tilt2 to the new Sense 2.5 ROM was trouble free. But immediately, everything that everybody has complained about here started happening:
    1. Slow as hell & severe lag
    2. Freezing on startup
    3. Slow text messaging app
    4. Deletion of the HTC Task Manager.

But I found that doing the following cleared everything up (many of these things were also mentioned by others in this thread):
-Turn off all auto-update features for the weather, location services, Facebook, stocks, etc (but I do keep push email, of course).  Go to: Settings > Data Services and Settings > Location

-Turn off other apps that auto-loads on bootup and sucks up memory--vlingo and NewsBreak are two.  Launch both of these programs, go to their respective Options menu, and turn off auto-loading.  Also, for vlingo, by default it is mapped to the "Send/Call" button...if you hold this button down, it'll launch it.  So got to Settings > Personal > Buttons and unmap it.  Maybe Crud Scraper already does these things, but Crud Scraper crashes on my Tilt 2, so I dunno.
-Reformat your SD card using the phone's new SD Format applet...it seems that the new ROM doesn't work with some of the old ROM's config files that might be on your card.  Just make sure to copy off the files you want to save before the formatting, of course, then copy them back in afterwards.
-Clear out your useless old text messages--it speeds up HTC Messaging trememdously (but it's still slower than it should be).
-Install a replacement Task Manager, such as ArkSwitch (which also lets you activate it quickly from the top bar, and it's a good-looking app).  Or, if you don't want to take another memory hit with another app loading into memory, map the stock WinMo Task Manager to the hold-"Send/Call" action (see above) for quick access to Task Manager.

After these actions, the phone runs quite smoothly with minimal lag, and I can sleep more easily at night.  Clearly, Sense 2.5 with all the bells and whistles is more suited to more powerful phones like the HD2.  In fact, if you read Engagdet's review of the HD2, it notes occasional lags even on that 1 GHz device; and I suspect it's because of all the auto-updating features and auto-loaded bloatware (T-Mobile in that case).  But the new ROM *can* work on our Touch Pro/Tilt 2 with some tweaking, without the complications of installing a custom ROM.

  • great advice thanks... copied my entire sd card to my computer; ran a backup; ready for format my sd card (cannot find the program on my device that allows you to format the sd card) I can find the area that wants me to format the device, but not just the sd card? searching and searching? LOL... I also downloaded the arkswitch program and I am going to give that a try... I also use Spb Mobile Backup; Opera Mini 5 and Opera 10 browser; cleanRAM by XDA; and a few other programs... sooooooo if you can lead me to the location of where I can format my sd card on my device, I'd appreciate it - thanks! :D Nancy ....

  • NEVER MIND Found it.... Right on the programs page... I just had to scroll down a little to find it... LOL...  says "format SD card"... done; now I'll copy my data back to my storage card; install the arkswitch and give that a try... for the most part I really like the new Sense ROM: I have a few bugs here and there I am still working out though... Now I also need to reinstall all of the programs that were previously installed on my SD Card; No biggie as they are all backed up... thanks, Nancy :)

  • quick question about: ArkSwitch ... what settings are you using? It replaced my touch screen start button in the upper left of my screen; and then it simply shows me statistics like the amount of free memory that I have - using 16 out of 32 programs.... hmmm... . is it suppose to create an X so you can close apps? ... is this the way you are using it? at first I could not locate the program then realized it was stored in start - tools - there are 4 options on the menu; run at boot time; use start menu icons; enable tools shortcut and WM6.5 compatibility; are all of yours checked off... if you get a minute pls explain if you have all of these options checked off and how you are using it as a task manager; thanks!! :) Nancy

  • There is a very good video on Arkswitch on Youtube:

    www.youtube.com/watch

In "Options," I have enabled: "Run at boot time," "Use Start Menu icons," and "Enable Tools shortcut,"  About how to activate Arkswitch: by default, if you touch the left half of the top bar (including the Start menu), you'll activate the app, at which time you should see a list of running programs and "X" next to each app allowing you to close them.  It does NOT put a pull down menu like HTC Task manager on the upper right hand corner.  But in Menu > Activation Field, you can set where along the top bar you want to touch to activate the app.  If you watch the Youtube video, it'll become crystal clear.  Hope this helps!

  • When does "day" really start? With the new ROM, it is now past 8:30 AM EST and the Home tab still shows the Moon. The Weather tab also shows the Moon. My Location is turned on. Weather is set to update automatically and I also did manual updates.

  • Sometimes the device does funny things with me as well Sunday befrore last  I woke up and my location had somehow chnaged to New York City and the time was off  it had been plugged into the charger all night with no intervention by me.  I have experienced the moon while it was morning  but it was showing somewhere in the middle east or something.   Sometimes I just scratch my head and shrug my shoulders. I am going to try to get rid of some of my old text messages.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled some programs to storage that i installed to main memory by forgetting to reinstall my sd card after the rome update.   I need to do the  cf.net 3.5 and run crud scraper and do the settings change  but most of all I need to install the nodata cab to keep the dtata connection from always wanting to turn  on it kills the battery.  Most annoying.

  • mark is that menu settings in the Marketplace app or in the device itself.   Are yoyu using the settings on the slide bar?  I am not finding in the seettings in sd card a way to do what you say.  Thanks for your help.

  • nevermind I figured it out myself. Duh  You are right it would be nice to have a more flexible option to choose at the time of installation like you used to with earlier win mo versions. Progress

  • Update to kblam's original 10/18/2010 post on the New ROM's sluggishness: Even after switching off all of HTC's auto-updates listed above, there is this dastardly RSS reader app called NewsBreak that is auto-loading into memory on startup and secretly pulling updates.  You need to launch the app and switch off its auto-updates.

  • I do not see NewsBreak in my Task Managers. Is it hidden?

    I never ran it.

  • NewsBreak runs periodically to update stuff.  If you're using the WinMo stock Task Manager, check "Processes."  It'll show up there, taking up some 1 MB of memory if NewsBreak is setup to pull the default several channels.
