When will HTC release an upgrade for Tilt2? I am very unhappy with the current performance and user experience of the phone and am ready to dump it.
There are two current hotfixes listed on the master thread for the Tilt2. Have you downloaded and installed them? If not, you should do that. There is no release date listed for the next upgrade of WM6.5 for the Tilt2. When we have that information, we will post it on this thread and the master Tilt2 Thread.
I recently put up a thread under the Windows Mobile General to accumulate user input on missing or changed features in WM6.5. That info can be passed on to the software group for possible inclusion in the next upgrade.
You can post your specific issues on the Changed or Missing Features thread, or detail your issues with the current release on this thread (or both), and we will try to help.
If you are having "look and feel" issues with the user interface, there are other interfaces that work well with WM6.5. I personally don't like TF3D, so I use Spb Mobile Shell as my user interface.
I have not but will do so today. However a hotfix isn't the same thing. The newer 6.5 is a much better touch experience and felt much snappier on my HTC Touch Pro and the only reason i "upgraded" to the Tilt2 was for the larger screen and the expectation that the new 6.5 would be out soon.
The Touch Pro doesn't have an official 6.5 ROM available. Unless you installed a cooked 6.5 on your Touch Pro, you are still running 6.1. If you have a cooked 6.5 ROM, you are comparing apples to oranges (cooked vs official). Most good cooked ROMs certainly exceed the performance of the stock ROMs.
I'm not sure what you mean by the new 6.5? Are you referring to 6.5.3? If so, the major improvements on that relate to capacitance screens and dual touch (pinch - like the iPhone). neither of those are applicable to the Tilt2. The Tilt2 is running WM6.5 with two available hot fixes. We have no information on when an official upgrade will be available
Don't know what to tell you Barry but the 6.5.3 experience (in my experience) exceeds the 6.5 on the Tilt2. What may have contributed to that is the lack of carrier installed "value added" bits in the ROM hence some validity to the apples to oranges argument. Appreciate the responses and i'll keep my fingers crossed but won't hold my breath for an updated ROM from HTC.

Thanks for the input. If you are running 6.5.3 and having a positive experience with it, I agree, the obvious question is whether the better performance is due to the lack of bloatware or the presence of improvements to the ROM that are outside the official definition of "improvements to dual touch and capacitive screens".
In my "former life" I wrote operating systems for mini-computers and was part of several development teams that wrote the OS for mainframes. I never was part of a system upgrade (that's what we called them in the last century - LOL) that only focused narrowly on specific items. We all kept lists of things that needed improvement and clean-up, and would tackle as many of the little problems as we could with each new release. That may well be what's happening here.
Just remember the process. It's not just HTC making the decisions on what goes into each ROM release. The carriers have their specs and requests (which often include bloatware) . You know that Verizon blocked access to WiFi on HTC devices that were capable of it, just to force users to use and pay for their data network. When Verizon users figured that out, they were so hot, and made so much noise that Verizon had to unblock the WiFi on those devices. You still can't surf the web and talk on a Verizon phone - what's up with that?

Like you, I was very underwhelmed by the WM6.1 delivered on my AT&T Tilt2 using HTC TF3D. How comfortable are you flashing your phone with a custom ROM, knowing that this will void your AT&T warranty? Because I flashed a custom WM6.5 ROM with Sense2.1 (search for the "e2 20100310 ROM" from xda-developers) and could not be happier with my phone. This particular ROM will also connect to AT&T's faster HSDPA network if available in your area. Excellent performance, Sense2.1 looks great, excellent battery life (forgot to charge my phone last night and still had 60% this morning after 24hrs).
FlopShot: comfortable are you flashing your phone with a custom ROM
I've only done this once and am not an expert..
FlopShot:knowing that this will void your AT&T warranty?
don't care about the warranty, esp if i can get more value/better experience out of it. I'll check out xda.
thanks for the pointer
With all the hardware bugs we've seen on the Tilt2 (my wife is on her third - I am on my second), I hesitate to void my AT&T warrantee for as long as it is available (one year from date of purchase), so I stick with the stock ROM with hotfixes and upgrades when they come, and simply tweak the performance of the device using Advanced Config. 3.3 and Spb Mobile Shell for the interface.
If you do decide to go to a custom ROM, I suggest you store the stock rom on your PC somewhere, so you can flash it back if you ever have hardware problems and need warrantee service.
FYI, the stock AT&T ROM is actually available directly on the HTC website, if you ever need to flash back to it.
thanks, i will copy down the rom "just in case"
benleal: thanks, i will copy down the rom "just in case"
That is an excellent idea. The stock ROMs and upgrades don't remain available forever on line. Better to have your own copy.
If you do decide to flash a custom ROM, be sure to backup your device to your SD card first. If you get into trouble, most of the time you can do a hard reset and a restore and be back in business. Every so often a bad flash can brick your device, so be careful to follow all the steps carefully.
Support called me yesterday (yes on saturday) about everyproblem in the book on tilt 2. Last week he had not heard of any fixes being planned. Yesterday, he informed me that a rom update is in the works. But not eta. But just the knowlege that they finaly relize some of the simple things that worked awsome on a fuze or original tilt, just did not work on tilt2. This phone should have never been shipped without the basics working.. On another note: the tilt2 is oh...so close to the touch pro 2. Which most of the other provides are discontinuing for a newer phone.. htd2. why did att take on this as everyone else moves on. Great phone,,just miss being able to use the features i became so acustomed with on the fuze.
a glimmer of hope but frankly with the impending release of Windows 7 Phone this fall, i'll be selling my tilt2 or passing it on to a family member.
The Tilt2 is the Touch Pro 2. AT&T always has to stick their finger in the pie and tweak things to brand a new device. The HTC Custom UI that takes away the ability to Snooze reminders for more than 5 minutes at a time and other little annoying quirks unfortunately has passed on to HTC Sense also. It's in the HD-2.
I disabled that Custom UI and went back to the MIcrosoft standard with a Reg. Edit on my Tilt2, but it screwed up enough other "stuff" that I went back to the HTC Custom UI. The fact that AT&T passed on the HD-2 speaks volumes. The didn't want a device that would blow the doors off of their precious iPhone offferings. I'm hoping that AT&T will finally wake up and offer the HD-3 with WP7 when it arrives, otherwise I'm switching carriers.
