I was talking on the phone one day when a text message came through. When I went to look at it I never got to see it. Since then the phone always has a 1 at the text message icon. Even after I delete the text messages it still shows one unread message. Anyone ran into this before? I would like to know how to get to the message if it is still there and get rid of the 1 by the incon. It is like that mosquito that wont go away. Just an aggrivating little sucker.
Have you tried doing a soft reset?
I have a similar issue -- email always indicates 1 unread message when there are none in fact.
A soft reset does not sure the issue.
Common problem, here use this

Thanks. Unfortunately, that software fix hasn't worked to resolve the problem.
Some people have reported that they had to try it multiple times before it finally worked.
Had a 100% repeatable no effect on the "1 Unread Email" state, which then miraculously disappeared. Hope springs eternal!
Thanks guys. I went ahead and did a full reset on the phone. That did the trick. Just have to put everything I had back in. No big deal. Thanks for all the help.
I cleared my phone memory through the app in settings, hard reset. I did not setup my email to be synced or to use an imap server so nothing is set up as far as mail goes but it says I have one new email. The fix for the 1 new SMS message didn't work for me as it doesn't incorporate email into it's coding. What can I do to fix this?
Need some help on this. I downloaded to my computer to send over to my phone and it wont work. It wont run. What am I doing wrong? Where do I have to save it?
I've had 1 unread text stuck for weeks. RogerThat's fixunreadcount program worked fine the first time, just power cycled the phone after running it. I just typed the address in to my phone's browser, downloaded to my storage card, unzipped, and ran it. HTC TP2 with Verizon.
i installed the hotfix from htc's downloads [ www.htc.com/.../downloads ] but it hasn't fixed this issue. last time i had to hard-reset and it cleared the '1 message' issue but it takes waaaaayyy too long to customize the phone after a hard reset. has anyone tried this hotfix and it worked? or htc has posted it just to make us feel good??
