There are no updates planned by HTC/AT&T for this model.

will there posibaly be an update that will come out that will update from 6.5 to 6.5.3?
On pocketnow.com there is a thread that reports an HTC update for the touch diamond II on HTC.uk will this work on the AT pure as well?
That depends...
If it is an official HTC ROM release for the Touch Diamond 2, no. If you try to install it, the wizard will give you an error message.
If it is a cooked ROM, perhaps but this will void any warranty you have left on the device.
I would love if HTC comes up with official update to 6.5.3, as it adds few good feature to the phone and plus that would probably be the last update possible for HTC Pure, as Windows Mobile Series 7 requires high end device (1GHz processor and more memory)
I think they should have an update, as after all its not like going from XP to Vista, but similar to adding service packs! 6.5 to 6.5.x
Well, i guess this means ill be going back to Samsung for my phone needs. This just shows the lack of customer loyalty, considering the Pure was the first to be released with winmobile 6.5. An update isnt that big a deal. Id even be happy with a Manilla update to 2.5. Oh well, back to Samsung or Motorolla.
Upgrades are a little more complicated that just " issuing a service pack " Windows Mobile , unlike XP ,Vista, W7 is integrated into the rom of the phone and is licensed from M$ for each handset manufactured, it is not like you can buy a copy of WM at Best Buy and license it yourself to receive all updates from M$. Depending on the update, M$ decides whether to require HTC to license a " new " copy of 6.5.3 or give it to HTC for free.
Since WM is integrated into the rom and the function of the phone, when an update comes out, a whole new rom has to be written with the update and then tested on each phone to make sure that there is nothing in the update that conflicts with any HTC functions or carrier functions that are also included in the rom.
HTC also has to decide how much and how long they are able to support and upgrade phones before it starts to affect the bottom line. After all, they are a handset maker and there profit comes from selling new handsets not from issuing free software to prolong the life of ' older ? " handsets.
Samsung and Motorola are in the same boat here. As chips get more powerful and storage space get bigger, the handset makers need to separate the operating rom from the operating system. M$ has long lamented about their lack of " control " of WM with the mobile phone market.
where on pocketnow.com is the thread?
i for some reason i cant find it
While all that is true, the HTC Pure hasn't been out all that long, so you would assume that an update such as 6.5.3, which just makes windows mobile 6.5 more touch friendly, and fixes their slow IE to work at an acceptable speed, wouldn't be a big deal. It's just fixed bugs, and added functionality. All previous coding should work fine, as it currently works fine, so testing shouldn't be much of an issue. As for Samsung, I had the Jack, which shipped with Windows Mobile 6.1, but Samsung was quick to update it to WinMobile 6.5, because it added the capabilities to the Jack that it was designed to have. Sort of how i feel 6.5.3 would better suit the Pure. If only because Manila 2.1 makes the background picture look fuzzy, while it's clear and crisp with the Titanium interface. But the Titanium isn't touch friendly, and a stylus isn't that much fun to use. How about an update from Manila 2.1 to Manila 2.5 at least??
do they have an update for manila 2.1?
if so where can i find it?
also will they ever have an update that updates the pure from 6.5 to 6.5.3?
Not officially, although the Diamond 2 got an update to 2.5, which makes me think at&t is a little bitter about the Pure not selling. If you unlock your phone (call at&t and they have to by law) and go to xda-developers.com. search the td2 / pure forums under ROM development, and there's a few winmobile 6.5.3 with sense 2.5 custom ROMs. I think the best is EnergyROM.
will this void my warenty?

I doubt that there will be anymore updates to the Pure. It costs AT$T $$$ to commission updates from M$ and HTC and the things that Manila 2.5 and 6.5.3 update will not really make the Pure run appreciably better. So I doubt that AT$T will go to the expense and trouble of issuing any updates Especially with WP7s on the horizon.
AT$T has to provide ( by law ) provide you with a sim unlock ( if your account is in good standing ). The only way to flash an upgraded custom rom, is to carrier unlock your phone, a sim unlock is not the same thing. Once you unlock or jailbreak ( to use the Apple vernacular ) your phone them you can use any Topaz rom that you want. All this of course will void any warranty from AT$T and HTC.
Yes, any non official software voids your warranty, check out the warranty detail that came in the box with the device.
