FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Carmaker Daimler on Saturday announced a partnership with mobile technologies company Qualcomm to explore wireless recharging of mobile phones in cars as well as recharging of electric cars without cables.
The move forms part of a broader push by Daimler, parent company of Mercedes-Benz, as well as rival German carmakers BMW and Audi to build their expertise in software and telecommunications.
The goal is to bolster their status as high-tech carmakers in an era when tightening emission rules force them to downsize engines, once a mainstay of profit.
In a joint statement, Daimler and Qualcomm said they were assessing the application of wireless technology to charge their electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrid EVs without ever having to plug them in.
The companies are also exploring technologies that will enable customers to wirelessly charge devices such as mobile phones while driving in their car, as well as ways to enhance in-car experience through high-speed 3G/4G connectivity.
"It's important that we remain on the cutting edge of technology and continue to deliver unparalleled experiences to our customers," Daimler's board member for research and development Thomas Weber, said.
"With this in mind, we are eager to jointly explore possible fields of future cooperation with an internationally leading tech firm like Qualcomm," Weber said in a statement.
Germany’s premium auto makers are currently on a tear to bulk up their technology expertise, and are readying an offer for Nokia's mapping division HERE.

如果一項產品要在不同範圍都做得出色的話，便需要不同範圍的出色人士合作了，而 Daimler 和 Qualcomm 就是這樣想了。兩公司宣佈將合作發展聯網汽車技術，合作的首階段將會聚焦於以行動技術去「轉化」未來的載具，
包括改善 3G / 4G 的連接表現、車內的無線充電技術和載具用無線充電技術（Qualcomm Halo Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging）。
此外，他們還會一同評估應如何應用 Qualcomm 最近所開發出的「載具方案」。
最後，兩公司當然沒有在現階段就公佈應用了上述技術的產品會在何時上市吧。

汽車製造商 Daimler 上週六宣布將與行動技術公司 Qualcomm 合作研發高科技汽車無線充電技術，未來大家在車上為手機充電，就不需透過線材了。
Daimler 廣為人知的就是不但為 Mercedes-Benz 母公司，更與同樣來自德國競爭對手 BMW、以及Audi 等高科技汽車廠牌車用軟體與通訊設備有合作關係。在一份聯合聲明中 Daimler 與 Qualcomm表示，他們正在評估電動汽車與混合動力電動汽車之於無線充電技術應用的可能性。Daimler 目前也積極探索能讓消費者在車上透過無線方式，為智慧型手機、平板電腦…等行動裝置充電，或即便在高速行駛下也能享受 3G/4G 高速上網…等各種體驗。
「我們最重要目為透過最新高科技，持續提供無與倫比的體驗給客戶，也因為考慮到這一點，我們相當渴望與在行動科技領域表現領先的 Qualcomm 未來的密切合作。」Daimler 研發部董事會成員Thomas Weber 在一份聲明中表示。

Yeah, its true we have minibus to manchester airport service and use some Mercedes cars and they are now charge for that esrvice too which we are not able to pay.
