I've been dealing with something similar on my HTC U23 Pro—photo functions in some apps just don't respond or crash unexpectedly. It seems like certain apps have compatibility issues with the camera API on this device. While I was troubleshooting this for an elevator security app we use in one of our recent projects, I noticed the same glitch.

Interestingly, during our recent work with Evergreen Remodelers landscaping team, we ran into similar mobile app limitations when documenting before and after visuals on-site. We ended up switching to a different device just to get around the issue. I think HTC really needs to push an update to fix third-party camera integration. Anyone else find a workaround yet?
